JOB PURPOSE

Unilever is the place where you can bring your purpose to life with the work that you do – creating a better business and a better world. The Team Leader Engineering – Foods is a Preventative Maintenance and Focussed Improvement specialist engaged to optimise the running and maintenance of equipment within the factory.  Where breakdowns occur, the multi-skilled technician will act to diagnose and troubleshoot faults and where necessary will recommend design improvements. She/he is also intimately involved with setting the Maintenance Strategy for the respective production area and lead the team as necessary.

The Team Leader Engineering – Foods is professionally competent and qualified to operate safely at a post apprentice level.  She/he must be a mentally agile and advanced problem solver actively engaged in maintaining a safe work environment, which protects product quality and reduces waste and other environmental impact. She/he must be a positive contributor to the factory’s work environment and culture; the team leader will act as a leading coach and mentor to the Technical Operators and Technicians around the areas of mechanical engineering and Unilever Manufacturing System techniques.

   

 KEY ACCOUNTABLITIES:

  • Mechanical Skills and Focused Technician; knowledge and application of technical skills and expertise to ensure the provision of effective engineering support within team, focused on delivering performance targets.  Directly contributes to improved safety, quality, sustainability and cost.

  •  Preventative Maintenance Specialist and user of Condition Based Monitoring. Implement planned and preventive maintenance with rigour and skill delivering on time and in full.

  • Mechanical skills and diagnostics: Knowledge of tools and their application, able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and manuals, ability to understand basic and complex mechanical equipment and diagnose them, ability to execute maintenance safely.

  • Ensuring all machines adhere to Unilever Machinery Safety standards by proper maintenance and continuous improvement. 

  • Able to safely isolate machinery from all utilities such as compressed air, electricity, steam, product lines, etc. and is competent on LOTOTO procedures.

  • Safety - Utilise all appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment to ensure a safe working environment for the whole team.

  • Workplace Hazards – Full knowledge of the workplace and hazards within it.  Utilise appropriate safety and environmental procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment relevant to the task.

  • Environment - Reduce costs due to waste and minimise impact to health, safety and the environment through working to eliminate waste and through the correct management of waste and hazardous materials.

  • Quality - Ensure that all aspects of Quality within the area of responsibility are in accordance with local Quality procedures to protect and promote the brand and product.

  • Leadership - Promote the development of a highly effective team through strong communication, leading by example whilst keeping focused on goals and targets.  Great teams and great leaders will achieve superior performance.

  • Continuous Improvement - Use performance measures to identify and prioritise losses in production area.  Apply rigorous Cost Deployment and the Zero loss concept to eliminate losses.

  • UMS - Knowledge and understanding of the key principles of UMS and the impact this has on the Key Performance Indicators in the production areas.

  • Problem Solving - Has the ability to identify, prioritise and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques that eliminate recurrence.

  • Decision Making - Makes and implements technical decisions which can impact the plan for the week.

  • Business Awareness - Understanding of the need to meet changing demands and the role of marketing and product innovation in growing the business and increasing the company's share.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or affiliated courses to Mechanical engineering.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Experience of working as part of an extended team within the manufacturing sector.

  • Strong coaching and communication skills.

  • Proven analytical skills.

  • Proven record of advanced maintenance experience.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Experience of manufacturing in FMCG.

  • Experience as a team member within a project/maintenance team.
