The Opportunity


You will lead a group of passionate locomotion engineers developing state-of-the-art algorithms that enable ANYmal to go ANYwhere. Together as One Team, you will guide the technical direction and define a clear roadmap for advancing locomotion capabilities. Collaborating closely with technical leaders and the R&D department, you will work as Pioneers to design and refine our next-generation robots. Your focus will be on driving innovation, enhancing the reliability and robustness of legged robotics, and integrating cutting-edge algorithms into production systems. ANYbotics transforms industrial plants in the energy, process, and utility sector by introducing robotics to a wide range of novel applications that so far were beyond reach. Our customers are large asset operators and industrial service providers pioneering the use of robotics technology for inspection and maintenance. Our mobile robot ANYmal uses legs for extreme mobility in complex environments, camera- and LIDAR-based sensing for full autonomy and obstacle avoidance, and AI for high-quality and consistent inspection results. We develop numerous customized hardware systems, including the entire robotic platform, actuators, sensors, inspection payloads, charging systems, and all related ANYbotics mechanical hardware.

Your Contributions

  • Drive the development of cutting-edge locomotion algorithms for ANYmal, advancing the boundaries of robotic mobility
  • Foster an outcome-driven culture by defining and reinforcing tangible, measurable goals, breaking down open-ended challenges into actionable work packages, and adapting plans as needed
  • Collaborate closely with the Product Owner and Director of Robotics to define and execute a visionary long-term roadmap
  • Mentor and empower team members, fostering skill development, technical excellence, and professional growth
  • Attract, recruit, and onboard top-tier locomotion engineering talent to build a world-class team.
  • Partner with team and department leads to continuously refine workflows and drive cross-functional collaboration
  • Ensure high standards of software quality across all deliverables, emphasizing reliability, robustness, and maintainability

Your Profile

  • A strong engineering or science degree with a focus on computer science, electrical engineering, or robotics
  • Excellent leadership skills with a proven track record of managing software engineering teams in robotics or related fields
  • Strong expertise in robotics, including optimal control and reinforcement learning algorithms, with a vision for applying recent research advances to industrial applications
  • Strong communication abilities, including formulating clear requirements and effectively explaining complex technical problems to diverse audiences
  • Strong at strategic thinking with the ability to set and align goals, break down complex challenges into actionable tasks, and foster a culture of continuous improvement
  • Good proficiency in writing high-quality C++ and Python code, with a solid understanding of the software development lifecycle

Bonus Points

  • Practical experience working with real robots or other mechatronic systems
  • Proven experience deploying machine learning systems in production environments
