HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services (HSVS) Nuevo Camino program is dedicated to providing 38 unaccompanied minors, ages 5-12, with a supportive, nurturing environment through transitional foster homes, daily education Monday - Friday, and supportive wrap-around services in the East Brooklyn section of New York City. Our program is rooted in ensuring that service delivery is trauma informed, culturally appropriate, and tailored to the needs of each child while maintaining all program requirements of ORR. 

 

Nuevo Camino is looking for a teacher’s assistant who will be responsible for assisting the education department with curriculum development in the subject area in they have the experience, and the delivery of assigned teaching activities/services to increase the skill level of the program participants.  

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position:

  • Assist the Education Department with curriculum development in subject areas aligned with experience and expertise
  • Support the delivery of educational instruction and assigned teaching activities for program participants
  • Help create engaging, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed learning environments
  • Support youth who may present behavioral, educational, and emotional challenges
  • Assist with English as a Second Language (ESL/ENL) instruction and language development activities
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members to support participant success
  • Foster positive relationships with immigrant youth and encourage academic and personal growth
  • Maintain professionalism and flexibility while supporting daily educational programming
Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of experience providing educational services or working in a related field with youth who present behavioral, educational, and emotional challenges preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required
  • Experience leading an English as a Second Language (ESL/ENL) curriculum required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field preferred; candidates pursuing an ENL extension, bilingual extension, or related certification pathways are encouraged to apply
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Strong passion for and commitment to supporting immigrant youth and families
