Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide ongoing tax support and oversight of Asia Pacific investments for HCVT Private Equity clients.
- Lead tax structuring advice preparation by external advisors (for new acquisitions, exits, restructurings and refinancing), balancing commercial views with tax and legal considerations which includes providing tax review comments with respect to tax structuring advice and transaction documentation related to Asia Pacific deals.
- Discuss tax issues identified on transactions with the relevant deal team and assisting them in understanding the tax implications of their decisions.
- Prepare of materials to facilitate senior level discussions on tax topics.
- Support domestic and cross border tax compliance including review and approval of tax returns for Fund SPVs in Asia Pacific (tax returns are mainly filed in Singapore and India).
- Ensure appropriate controls are maintained to manage tax risk.
- Partner with various internal and external parties to develop and implement consistent tax positions for investments across the Asia Pacific region.
- Track and assess ongoing tax developments in the Asia Pacific region that could impact key business areas and/or investment structures, and providing timely updates to TPG and the broader HCVT Tax engagement team.
- Develop working understanding of US tax concepts that are critical to investment structuring and fund operations/reporting.
- Develop and maintain relevant industry contacts and manage relationships with third party tax advisors, accounting firms and law firms with a continued focus on identifying best in class service providers.
Eligible candidates should have:
- A bachelor’s degree relevant to the position; a Master’s degree or other equivalent advanced degree in Taxation strongly preferred
- Professional accounting or tax qualification, such as ACA, ACCA, ATT or CTA, or relevant equivalent (e.g. law degree with experience practicing in Tax)
- Minimum 6 + years of relevant tax experience preferably combined experience in public accounting (preferably Big Four) and private industry with exposure to South-East Asia (transactional experience is essential)
- Strong integrity, work ethic, and professionalism
- Ability to work independently and to take on additional responsibilities yet be a team player who can produce deliverables of a high quality
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to communicate with tax professionals on a technical level, summarize and explain technical tax issues to non-tax professionals in a commercial and meaningful manner
- Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to effectively multi-task and appropriately prioritize competing demands in a fluid environment
