Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Tax Administrator – Boca Raton, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities include:

  • Manages FAU’s foreign national payroll process for the universities’ nonresident alien (NRA) population.
  • Works to resolve NRA-related concerns in collaboration with FAU staff and the NRAs.
  • Acts as the primary payroll contact for the NRAs (including students, post-doctoral scholars, fellows, visiting scientists, and professors) and assists individuals to follow the Institute’s policies and procedures that are consistent and in compliance with U.S. tax laws.
  • Responds to a high volume of NRA community inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Keeps records in Workday and Sprintax up to date.
  • Conducts independent tax research and acts as liaison between FAU and the IRS on matters related to NRA taxation.
  • Manages the tax treaty process, including identifying eligibility, confirming tax treaty status, performing initial payroll setup, following renewal processes, and managing communication.
  • Manages and updates all taxation changes in Workday to ensure all NRA taxation for working population is correct.
  • Coordinates with Tax & Compliance staff to ensure all foreign supplier invoices are processed with correct tax withholdings.
  • Compiles Form 1042s data, including auditing, correcting, and preparing data to be used in 1042 tax forms and filings using Sprintax.
  • Performs various weekly, monthly, and quarterly audits in both Workday and Sprintax.
  • Coordinates data mapping and integration projects between Workday and Sprintax.
  • Coordinates with Tuition & Billing Services and International Student Services to capture non-qualifying reportable payments such as scholarships/stipends given to NRA students.
  • Ensure University compliance with tax statutes and IRS regulations by assisting with developing tax compliance strategies and procedures and staying continuously informed.
  • Supports the Tax & Compliance team with backup support as needed for 1098T, 1099 and UBIT filings and tasks associated with all processes.
  • Recommend business process changes to increase accuracy and continual analysis of tax-related transactions in the ERP systems.
  • Works with the Director of Payroll to create and periodically update NRA-related communications.
  • Other ad hoc projects and job-related duties as assigned by supervisor/leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Finance, Public Administration, Accounting, Business, or a related field - highly desirable.
Two years of work experience in accounting, auditing, tax compliance, or tax preparation, highly preferred.
Experience in higher education or the governmental sector - highly preferred.
Ability to use independent judgment to navigate various taxation scenarios.
Strong communication skills both written and oral.
Ability to handle a variety of projects and ensure all deadlines are met timely.
Experience using the Workday ERP and/or Sprintax, highly desirable.

Salary:

$65,000 - $70,000 per year.
