JOB FUNCTION / SUMMARY:
Coordinates and performs activities designed to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable governmental regulations, professional standards, and organizational policies. Gathers data for use in the development and preparation of various financial and statistical reporting required by Company management, directors, shareholders, and external auditors. Prepares and submits various financial and statistical reports required by Company management, directors, shareholders, and external auditors. Responsible for all aspects of annual 1099 reporting. Prepares external regulatory reporting: sales tax, use tax, income tax, quarterly estimated payments, business privilege tax, shareholder tax, real estate tax, franchise tax, etc. Maintains current knowledge of applicable governmental regulations, professional standards, and organizational policies. Ensures that all reports comply with applicable governmental regulations, professional standards, and organizational policies. Provide technical expertise with regard to GAAP, FASB, IRS, and FCA regulations to Management, department heads and third parties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates and compiles data presented in the company’s annual report.
- Prepares financial reports for specialized use as needed.
- Gathers data needed for required reporting, analyzing data for reasonableness and correctness, preparing reports in required format, and submitting reports via approved medium.
- Timely and accurately files monthly and quarterly sales tax reports with various governmental agencies.
- Timely and accurately files annual report with various secretaries of state for parent company and subsidiaries.
- Analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Investigates new sources of revenue and expense to determine impact on tax provisioning.
- Timely and accurately files company’s federal and state income tax returns.
- Timely and accurately calculates, files, and pays quarterly tax estimates, extension payments, and balances due at the time returns are filed.
- Develops requested traditional and non-traditional financial data presentations.
- Timely and accurately completes calculation and reconciliation of tax-related accounts.
- Timely pays shareholder taxes.
- Timely pays personal and real estate taxes.
- Timely calculates and pays privilege taxes.
- Accurately calculates and reports franchise tax due.
- Performs timely resolution of issues related to 1099 reporting.
- Maintains current knowledge of applicable governmental regulations, professional standards, and organizational policies.
- Attends continuing education programs designed to enhance knowledge of current professional standards.
- Studies industry publications and/or attend industry meetings to learn of emerging/current issues.
- Maintains knowledge of current organizational policies.
- Recommends or implements modifications to organizational reporting and/or accounting practices, as necessary to comply with new governmental regulations, professional standards, and organizational policy requirements.
- Confers with appropriate individuals to assure proper interpretation of reporting and/or accounting requirements/standards as well as tax regulations.
- Prepares technical analysis in response to inquiries regarding proper accounting treatment of items with regard to tax.
- Provides guidance to other departments and Accounting Operations Manger’s staff in the set-up of new revenue/expense items and proper treatment to assure compliance and adequacy of controls with current regulations.
- Assists departments and/or individuals with special projects including research and analysis.
- Evaluates and communicates major changes in regulations affecting accounting requirements to appropriate staff.
- Coordinates and facilitates sales and use tax audits.
- Verifies additional tax assessments resulting from audits.
- Initiates correction of general ledger errors.
- Maintains department files and records as they pertain to assigned duties.
- Responds to inquiries regarding accounting policies and procedures
- Initiates/participates in problem resolution regarding policies and procedures for company personnel, management, auditors and regulators.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance and CPA and/or Master's Degree required
- Experience in preparation of sales and use tax, business income and franchise tax returns, business privilege tax returns, real estate returns, individual income tax returns
- Experience in preparation and analysis of financial statements
- Knowledge of accounting principals
- Knowledge of applicable governmental regulations, professional standards and organizational policies
- Knowledge of GAAP, FASB, IRS and FCA regulations
- Working knowledge Microsoft Office products
- Working knowledge of tax software
- Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously

- Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
- Ability to operate a keyboard as required when performing the essential job functions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents.
- Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 20 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division an “undue hardship” then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
