Job Description

As a Tax Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the Group Tax Manager and strengthening the organization’s global tax function across a rapidly growing, international business. You will take ownership of day-to-day tax matters and contribute to the delivery of tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities across multiple corporate entities operating in various jurisdictions.

Working closely with the wider finance team and cross-functional stakeholders, you will provide technical tax support, help drive accuracy and efficiency in tax processes, and ensure the business remains compliant with evolving tax regulations and reporting requirements. This role requires a high level of professional judgment, integrity, and accountability in managing sensitive tax and financial information.

You will be expected to demonstrate a proactive and adaptable approach in navigating changing tax legislation, tight deadlines, and shifting business priorities. In addition to supporting compliance and reporting activities, you will contribute to tax risk management, process improvements, and strategic tax initiatives that support the company’s hyper-growth and global expansion.

This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who is committed to continuous learning and development, stays current with industry trends and international tax developments, and is looking to make a meaningful impact in a hands-on, fast-paced environment. The role offers broad exposure to a wide range of tax matters and the chance to actively contribute to the evolution of the tax function across a complex global organization.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading the preparation, review, and timely submission of indirect tax returns across multiple jurisdictions, with particular emphasis on US sales and use tax, as well as VAT, OSS VAT, GST/HST, and SST filings for UK and international entities.
  • Taking ownership of the reconciliation and analysis of direct and indirect tax balance sheet accounts, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of tax liabilities, tax accruals, and turnover reconciliations across the group.
  • Overseeing the preparation and posting of monthly and year-end tax journal entries, ensuring tax accounting is accurate, well-documented, and aligned with group reporting requirements.
  • Managing tax filing calendars and coordinating the timely execution of tax payments and statutory filings, ensuring full compliance with local and international deadlines.
  • Preparing and monitoring monthly tax cash flow forecasts, partnering closely with the treasury and finance teams to ensure accurate funding, timely payment of tax liabilities, and effective reconciliation of tax payments.
  • Owning the administration, review, and ongoing optimization of AvaTax and ECM tax processes, including monthly tax submissions, system accuracy, and process improvements related to indirect tax determination and reporting, particularly for US sales tax compliance.
  • Supporting and helping drive the group’s global tax compliance obligations, including US state and local tax requirements, gross receipts tax, annual reports, business licence filings, and other recurring statutory compliance matters across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Partnering with the Group Tax Manager in the management of broader tax obligations, including PSA, STBV reporting, transfer pricing and R&D matters, and other corporate tax compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders across finance, legal, treasury, and operations on tax-related matters, providing timely, practical, and commercially focused guidance, particularly in relation to US indirect tax exposure and compliance.
  • Supporting the preparation and coordination of tax documentation required for internal and external audits, ensuring audit readiness and maintaining strong supporting records across all tax processes.
  • Playing an active role in managing tax audits, enquiries, and correspondence with HMRC, US state tax authorities, and other overseas tax authorities, including information gathering, response coordination, and issue tracking.
  • Contributing to tax-related projects, system implementations, business changes, and ad hoc strategic initiatives, bringing a proactive and solutions-oriented approach to complex tax matters.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a tax accounting or tax compliance role, with responsibility for managing a broad range of direct and indirect tax matters across multiple entities and jurisdictions.

  • Strong technical knowledge of direct and indirect taxes, with the ability to interpret and apply tax rules in a practical business context, including exposure to US tax compliance, sales tax, and international tax reporting requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines, prioritise effectively, and maintain a high standard of accuracy and judgment in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Proven capability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, taking ownership of tax processes and deliverables while exercising sound professional judgment and escalating issues where appropriate.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive mindset and a continuous improvement approach to identifying tax risks, strengthening controls, and improving processes.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, external advisers, auditors, and tax authorities.

  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive financial and tax information.

  • Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to see the bigger picture and understand the broader commercial and operational impact of tax matters.
