The Tag and Title Associate processes car deals, verify costs for the accounting department including the costs of reconditioning and equipment add-ons, and handles the legal transfer of documents for the Department of Motor Vehicles. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Duties/Responsibilities

  • Processes all new and used vehicles for registration in the state in which they will be titled.
  • Prepares tax and title documents.
  • Submits all legal transfer paperwork to the Department of Motor Vehicles or processing company, when applicable.
  • Communicates with customers, dealership personnel and tag/title agencies.
  • Verifies funds are posted in the accounting records and that the correct lienholder was paid off before processing title applications.
  • Checks for accuracy of the application and ensures all information is complete.
  • Keeps Controller abreast of missing titles and provides status of title work as needed.
  • Maintains a system to verify out-of-state titles.
  • Manages yearly renewal of dealer tags.
  • Stays abreast of title regulations.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and a neat work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to learn tag and title laws and regulations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited information exists.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software including Excel, as well as general accounting software.
  • Must have the ability to sit for long hours while working from a desktop computer, accounting calculator, accounting software, ledgers, and more.
  • Must have ample dexterity to bend, reach, stretch, sit, stand, type, and lift to 30 pounds.

Education and Experience

  • Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Automotive Dealership experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening, and Motor Vehicle Report.
