Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
As a member of our team, you will report to the Trust Systems Engineering Manager. You will build and operate platforms to guarantee availability, performance and stability of Atlassian's security tools and services. You will also lead our team's security project milestones to improve our security posture.
You are someone who has a collaborative spirit, aspires to deliver outstanding customer service, and enjoys learning and bringing new ideas to the table for consideration.
If you are an experienced systems engineer interested in developing your cybersecurity expertise, this role is a rare opportunity to do just that!
In this role, you will:
  • Architect deployment of platforms to enhance availability, performance and stability of both custom-built and third-party security platforms, and automating away repetitive work
  • Manage relationship with third-party cybersecurity vendors and act as a platform owner to ensure they are fit-for-purpose and meeting our goals
  • Work on non-production and production environments: monitoring, data collection and configuration management, as well as disaster recovery planning, capacity engineering, reliability improvement, and platform automation
  • Respond to internal support requests, pages and alerts to investigate issues in our services to challenge your technical abilities
  • Participate in a paid 24x7 on-call rotation to support our platforms
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to accomplish Trust and Security initiatives and objectives through deployment of custom and third-party tools

On your first day, we will expect you to have:
  • 2+ years of experience in Systems Administration with hands-on experience administering and management of Unix/Linux systems
  • 1+ year of experience building, automating, and maintaining cloud infrastructure in AWS using EC2, RDS/Aurora, IAM, S3, VPC or other cloud providers' equivalent services
  • 1+ year experience engineering or development of custom tooling using one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Go, or similar)
  • 1+ years of experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker
  • Knowledge of how to deploy and manage services using Configuration/Infrastructure-as-code projects and tooling (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, Packer)
  • Built and maintained continuous integration and delivery pipelines (e.g. Bitbucket Pipelines, Bamboo, Argo Workflows, GitHub Actions)
  • Hands-on experience with observability tools (e.g. Splunk, SignalFX, Datadog, ELK) and methodologies (e.g. logging, metrics, tracing) for highly available web services
  • Experience responding to alerts, incidents, and requests for production services requiring 99.9% SLA
  • Experience managing 3rd party software systems that require vendor engagement

It would be awesome, but not required if you have:
  • Hands-on experience as a Jira Administrator and working knowledge of Jira Assets and Jira Analytics
  • Experience building automation and reusable golden configuration/builds/images other teams can benefit from
  • Experience managing engineering projects end to end, from requirements gathering, analysis, design, development and all the way through project delivery and transition from "build" to "run/operate" stage
  • Experience using data and metrics to evaluate new technologies and technical direction
  • Familiarity with analytics platforms, such as Databricks, or SQL knowledge, would be a plus
  • Experience with third-party cybersecurity solutions - CNAPP, IDS, SCA, MDR/EDR, Vulnerability Assessment, SOAR, Threat Intelligence Platforms - would be a huge bonus
  • Experience enhancing security by using AI
