Northrop Grumman Space Systems – central region (MDI BU) has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Staff Systems Engineer (Level 6) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL.
Position Overview:
The selected Sr. Staff Systems Engineer responsibilities will include the support of the MDI Futures and GWS program as both an individual contributor and Product line leadership with time allocation of 70% MDI-F / BSW and 30% GWS.
This role will serve as the technical leader for extension of existing Missile Defense Integration (MDI) Business Unit (BU) capabilities into product lines, collaborating across MDI BU functions to develop business strategies aligned with compelling technical offerings to support BU growth objectives. Additionally, this role will support the planning and execution of BU Internal Research & Development (IR&D) projects to mature technologies that support future capture opportunities. Finally, this role will provide technical expertise where needed across existing programs within the MDI BU portfolio. This role will coordinate across functions in a fast paced-environment, developing technical solutions that meet customer technical, cost, and schedule requirements. Programmatic focus will be on the activities to develop key technologies, integrate and shape solutions for the MDI BU while also supporting the creation of new strategies to win and execute future development programs.
Serve as the technical counterpart to the product line manager and as the technical lead for product line capture and proposal efforts.
Serve as the technical liaison to customers and industry partners for product line opportunities.
Foster collaboration across the MDI BU to facilitate technical knowledge sharing, development of technology maturation roadmaps, and provide leadership to IR&D planning and execution to position technical offerings for future opportunities.
Provide technical leadership, solutioning, and risk-based decision making through assistance to ongoing program execution.
Provide mentoring to other technical employees in the application of system architecture and systems engineering principles, tools, and techniques to achieve results through managing people, internal processes and customer/supplier relationships.
Provide insight and knowledge transfer to others on internal and external technical solutions to solve complex problems.
Develop and present technical solutions to senior leadership, collaborate across BUs, divisions, sectors within the company as well as with industry partners and customer community, using strong communication skills.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 12 years of related experience, or 10 years of experience with a PhD.
Strong technical background in systems engineering and product lines (concept to commercialization).
Strong background in product architecture & program execution.
Candidate must demonstrate ability to think critically and capture concepts in papers, presentations, and discussions.
Individual must possess good communication skills.
Must be capable of working both independently and within a team environment, to include leading a team.
Experience as a tech team lead on a systems engineering team.
The successful candidate must also be willing to assume a technical leadership role.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.
