The Homeland Security Airports, Borders and Security Division at Leidos currently has an opening for a Systems Administrator. This position will be responsible for technical planning, system hardware-software-network design, development and integration, verification and validation, and fielding. This position develops technical solutions – evaluating cost, risk, and supportability -- that require collaboration with internal experts and deep analyses and understanding of impact on end-product/solution. It requires deep understanding of and ability to apply principles, theories, and concepts of the technical domain and has broad understanding of other related specialty areas.
The technology environment is a multi-tiered, Java, web-based environment using JBoss Application Server and Portal technologies integrated with QuestionMark, Active Directory, MS SQL Server, IBI WebFOCUS, ILOG, and Oracle 19c database. The server environment includes Dell and other hardware, The environment is highly virtualized running VMware ESX supporting virtual servers running RedHat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server operating systems. The networking infrastructure includes Palo Alto & Cisco equipment (e.g., firewalls, Catalyst switches, MDS fiber switches etc.). External storage solutions equipment is from Dell. Migration to an IaaS deployment in a Government Azure cloud is underway.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties include performing systems requirements analysis, functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition, technical management, integration, system testing, and quality assurance. IMPACT: Works independently to achieve day-to-day objectives with significant impact on operational results or project deliverables. Responsible for entire projects or processes within a technical area.
- The Systems Administrator will provide support for the management, operations, and maintenance of the SASS server, network, and database environments.
- Provides continuous assurance of the successful day-to-day operation and viability of the SASS server and network environment according to established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Monitors and coordinates synchronization between production and failover SASS environments (may require occasional travel).
- Prepares and documents procedures for day-to-day operations and ensures that they are carried out.
- Manages maintenance of the infrastructure, including application of critical and recommended patches and upgrades.
- Coordinates on-site resources to support installation of new hardware or software releases. Some repairs and maintenance may require travel to customer sites.
- Prepares regular security and operational reports for delivery to the customer.
- May motivate, train, counsel and give guidance to other staff on administrative and technical matters.
- Interacts with the customer directly and communicates concerns to Leidos project management and technical team members.
BASIC REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent work experience or specialized training) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline
- Minimum of three years hands-on experience with web-based server systems, Linux or other Unix operating systems, virtualization, and dealing with network connectivity and troubleshooting.
- Ability to analyze and effectively tune server availability and performance issues.
- Experience with creating process, procedures, and documentation relating to data center management, disaster recovery, and off-site backup storage and retrieval.
- Experience in large, enterprise-level systems deployments and data center operations environments.
- Experience with NIST 800-53 security requirements, managing STIG settings, interacting with various vulnerability scanning tools, and complying with audit activities related to regulatory compliance.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary to effectively manage, motivate, and teach co-workers and staff.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently as a self-starter, and within a team environment.
ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Expertise in RHEL administration, including system hardening, performance tuning, and automation
- Formal change management and incident management experience
- Azure and/or AWS cloud administration experience a plus
- Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence tools.
