Who we are looking for:

GTA is seeking a Systems Administrator to serve as the technical backbone for the virtualized compute and storage environments underpinning our wireless and broadband network infrastructure. This role manages the VM hosts, hypervisors, and SAN/storage systems supporting RAN, core network, and broadband (XGS-PON) elements — distinct from corporate/enterprise IT — ensuring uptime, performance, and data integrity for carrier-grade network functions. The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on virtualization and storage expertise with the composure to operate where downtime directly affects customers.

Here is what the role looks like:
As a Systems Administrator at GTA, you'll keep the infrastructure behind our network running at its best — and make it better every day. You'll administer the virtualization clusters carrying our wireless core, RAN, and broadband systems, tune storage for performance and resilience, and play a key role in disaster-recovery readiness. If you're energized by high-availability environments and want your work to keep an entire island connected, this is your chance to make a real impact. Essential job functions include:

  • Administer virtualization hosts and clusters (Proxmox VE, VMware vSphere/ESXi, or KVM) running virtualized network functions (VNFs) for wireless core, RAN, and broadband systems, including cluster configuration, live migration, and node/quorum management
  • Manage Proxmox-integrated storage (Ceph, ZFS) alongside traditional SAN infrastructure, including pool configuration, replication, and performance tuning
  • Manage SAN/storage infrastructure (provisioning, LUN management, replication, performance tuning, capacity planning) supporting network element databases and VNF workloads
  • Deploy, patch, and maintain the OS layer (Linux/Windows Server) for network application servers, EMS/NMS platforms, and OSS tools
  • Monitor VM host, storage, and infrastructure performance; proactively identify capacity constraints or degradation affecting network services
  • Support high-availability and disaster recovery architecture for core network and RAN-supporting systems, including backup and replication via Veeam (Backup & Replication for VMware/Hyper-V environments, and/or Veeam Backup for Proxmox VE) for VNF and storage environments
  • Coordinate with RAN engineers, core network engineers, and RF/network engineering teams on infrastructure changes, maintenance windows, and upgrades tied to network element software
  • Manage access controls, hardening, and security patching for network-supporting infrastructure in coordination with IT Security and vendor requirements
  • Support integration and connectivity between virtualized infrastructure and network management/OSS platforms (including drive test and RF analysis tools such as TEMS Investigation/Discovery, where applicable)
  • Maintain infrastructure documentation, configuration baselines, and change management records for network-supporting systems
  • Participate in on-call rotation and coordinate maintenance windows with network operations to minimize service impact
  • Evaluate infrastructure vendor solutions (storage, compute, virtualization, backup) and recommend upgrades or replacements aligned with network growth
  • Performs other related duties and special projects assigned to support evolving business priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience administering infrastructure for a mobile network operator or wireline broadband provider
  • Experience with Proxmox clustering, Ceph storage, and PBS (Proxmox Backup Server) for VNF backup/DR
  • Familiarity with migrating workloads between VMware and Proxmox environments
  • Veeam certification (VMCE — Veeam Certified Engineer)
  • Experience configuring Veeam backup jobs, replication targets, and immutable/air-gapped backup repositories for ransomware protection
  • Experience with vendor-specific network element platforms (e.g., Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, ZTE core/RAN management systems)
  • Certifications: VCP (VMware Certified Professional), storage vendor certifications (NetApp NCDA, etc.), RHCSA
  • Familiarity with NFV/SDN concepts and orchestration platforms
  • Experience supporting XGS-PON or other fiber broadband access infrastructure

Here’s what you need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of systems administration experience supporting telecom or carrier network infrastructure (wireless core, RAN, or broadband access networks)
  • Strong hands-on experience with enterprise virtualization platforms — Proxmox VE and/or VMware vSphere/ESXi — hosting VNFs; KVM-based virtualization knowledge required
  • Strong hands-on experience with SAN/enterprise storage administration (e.g., NetApp, Dell EMC, HPE, Pure Storage)
  • Hands-on experience with Veeam Backup & Replication (or equivalent enterprise backup platform) for VM-level backup, replication, and recovery in virtualized environments
  • Solid Linux administration skills (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu); Windows Server administration a plus
  • Understanding of telecom network architecture — RAN, EPC/5GC, or broadband access (PON/DOCSIS) — sufficient to support the infrastructure hosting these functions
  • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing basics) as they relate to VNF connectivity
  • Scripting/automation ability (Bash, Python, PowerShell) for infrastructure tasks
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in high-availability, low-latency environments where downtime directly affects customer service
  • Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening
