Scout Energy is a private energy investment firm that acquires, operates and improves upstream conventional oil and gas and associated midstream properties for institutional investors. Scout’s business is both the management of private energy funds and the operation of the oil and gas assets it owns. 

Scout is seeking an experienced System Administrator – Hybrid Infrastructure to manage, maintain, and support enterprise infrastructure across on-premises data centers and cloud environments. This position will be responsible for servers, virtualization, networking, Azure, AWS, security, automation, monitoring, and infrastructure deployments.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on infrastructure professional with strong systems administration skills, solid networking knowledge, experience with Cisco and Meraki, and the ability to automate administrative and operational tasks using scripting and modern infrastructure tools. The position requires the ability to troubleshoot across multiple technology platforms and support both day-to-day operations and infrastructure projects.

This position will report to Scout’s IT Operations Manager as a part of our Information Technology department.  

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and support Azure infrastructure, including virtual machines, virtual networks, subnets, network security groups, storage, monitoring, backup, hybrid connectivity, and other Azure services. 
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers, including Windows and Linux operating systems, virtualization platforms, storage, and associated infrastructure.
  • Deploy and maintain data center infrastructure, including server and network equipment installation, rack and stack activities, cabling, hardware configuration, firmware updates, replacements, and equipment decommissioning 
  • Administer Microsoft infrastructure services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, authentication, file services, and hybrid identity integrations. 
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure, including Cisco and Cisco Meraki switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, VPNs, VLANs, routing, switching, and network connectivity 
  • Develop and maintain automation and scripting solutions using PowerShell, Python, Bash, Azure CLI, AWS CLI, or similar technologies to automate provisioning, administration, monitoring, reporting, maintenance, and repetitive operational tasks. 
  • Monitor infrastructure health, performance, availability, capacity, and security, proactively identifying potential issues and implementing corrective actions before they impact business operations
  • Perform system maintenance, patching, upgrades, hardening, and vulnerability remediation across servers, network devices, cloud resources, and other infrastructure components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues spanning operating systems, servers, networking, virtualization, cloud services, storage, authentication, and connectivity.
  • Implement and support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions, including recovery testing and participation in infrastructure recovery and disaster recovery exercises.
  • Participate in infrastructure projects and technology initiatives, including cloud migrations, data center migrations, server refreshes, network upgrades, infrastructure modernization, and new system deployments.
  • Collaborate with application, database, security, networking, development, and other IT teams to design, implement, troubleshoot, and maintain infrastructure supporting enterprise applications and services.
  • Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation and operational procedures, including network and infrastructure diagrams, configurations, asset information, standard operating procedures, change documentation, and disaster recovery documentation.

Skills & Specifications

  • Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or other enterprise virtualization technologies
  • Experience with Azure networking, hybrid connectivity, and Azure security services
  • Experience with AWS VPC, EC2, IAM, S3, and CloudWatch.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates
  • Experience with Python, Bash, Azure CLI, or AWS CLI
  • Experience with enterprise storage, SAN, RAID, and backup technologies
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID and hybrid identity
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring and logging platforms
  • Relevant Microsoft, Azure, AWS, Cisco, or other industry certifications.

 
Education & Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure administration, or a related IT infrastructure role
  • Strong experience administering Windows Server and Microsoft infrastructure environments
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and virtualization
  • Experience supporting physical servers and data center infrastructure
  • Experience administering or supporting Microsoft Azure environments
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, and firewalls
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco and/or Cisco Meraki networking equipment
  • Strong PowerShell scripting and automation experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across multiple technology platforms
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure security, patching, backup, monitoring, and disaster recovery
  • Strong documentation, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
