ALTEN Technology is seeking a hands-on System Support Engineer to investigate, reproduce, and resolve in-service issues on fielded hardware/software systems. This role will be onsite in Irvine, CA lab, where dedicated equipment and platforms are available for troubleshooting and root cause analysis. This role will operate as part of a team, coordinating with development and integration engineering to drive issues to closure.

Responsibilities
    • In-Service Issue Characterization — Proactively evaluate incoming issue data from the field. Identify, analyze, and document newly reported system issues across software and hardware domains. Formally document initial findings and recommended next steps for each issue.

Develop and implement troubleshooting plans autonomously using established methodologies and documented approaches.

Coordinate with involved parties — development engineering, third-party suppliers, integration teams, and hardware support — as required to determine root cause. Deliver detailed root cause analyses and supporting documentation for each issue.
    • Reporting & Remediation Coordination — Document all investigation activities, findings, and resolutions in the designated issue tracking system. Coordinate fix requests, review design change proposals, provide technical challenges as necessary, and track each issue through to resolution.

Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
    • 5+ years of experience in system support, sustaining engineering, or system integration & test.
    • Proficiency in C and C++ for debugging and code analysis.
    • Strong shell scripting skills (Bash) in Linux/Unix environments.
