As a Systems Engineer – Level 2 or Systems Engineer - Level 3 located in Promontory, UT, you’ll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one. 


The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the team’s technical execution, standards, workflow processes, and NASA program/project support. The qualified candidate must be able to provide mentoring and leadership to a team of highly skilled systems engineers in delivery of technical products and associated risks, manage workload, improve team standard methods, ensure product quality control, and provide an example of company standards. This role will report directly to the Systems Engineering Manager.


This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.


The primary responsibility of the systems engineer in this position is to support program systems engineering needs by capturing model-based digital architecture and requirements while retrieving compliance data from various sources into the systems engineering model for a defense program.

·         Coordinate with customers and program team members to understand the intent and needs of the integrated system

·         Evaluate and manage customer requirements and derived flow down into subsystem and component specifications as appropriate

·         Analyze the needs of the system and translate into verifiable performance and design requirements 

·         Support associated verification approach and work with engineering teams to develop analysis and test results to support stakeholder requirements

·         Integrate customer directed changes into the system and facilitate implementation of changes within a change management system

·         Coordinate and communicate between multiple cross-functional subsystem teams

·         Support capture of model architecture for model-based integration of requirements, design, analysis, and verification.

This position can be filled at either a Level 2 or Level 3.


Basic Qualifications for Level 2:

·         Bachelor’s degree (STEM) with 2 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree.

·         Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance

·         Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years in Systems Engineering methods

·         Strong understanding and broad application of systems engineering thinking

·         Experience developing and implementing internal standards

·         Understanding of solid rocket motor system physics, design and testing

·         Ability to travel:  Travel expectation of 5% – 10%


Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

·         Bachelor’s degree (STEM) with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree (STEM) with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience.   

·         Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance

·         Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years in Systems Engineering methods

·         Strong understanding and broad application of systems engineering thinking

·         Understanding of solid rocket motor system physics, design and testing

·         Ability to travel:  Travel expectation of 5% – 10%


 Preferred Qualifications:             

·         Strong understanding of the Systems methods (Requirements, Verification, ICDs, MBSE)

·         Engineering leadership experience in solid rocket motor development, qualification and production

·         Experience as a Project Engineer with demonstrated experience planning work and performing to that plan

·         Experience working multiple programs.  Prefer a variety of programs (size, scope, products, etc.)

·         Demonstrated experience supporting both internal and external customers

·         Employee talent identification and development

·         Strong understanding and broad application of PS engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, engineering/business systems, workflow, resource management, product development, etc.)

·         Demonstrated experience in guiding a functional systems team from product conception through certification

·         Defining functional/programmatic risks and risk management

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
