Helical Pile Solutions is a deep foundations contractor with over 30 years of experience in the industry, recently acquired by Java Holdings Ltd. (“Java”).  Java staff have over 50 years of experience building some of Canada’s largest electrical infrastructure projects. The Swamper is responsible for assisting with the installation of various types of foundations piling on active construction sites. This role is integral to pile placement, the movement of equipment and materials and the coordination of ground activities.

Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities

  • Takes direction from Operators and/or Field Supervisors.
  • Exhibits pride in workmanship and an ability to execute all the duties of a Swamper safely, accurately and efficiently.
  • Comprehends the importance of dependability and consistency in a high-performance team environment.
  • Understands the importance of worksite safety and manages field-level risks by undertaking the required steps of a Field Level Hazard Assessment (FLHA).
  • Learns required measuring techniques related to piling.
  • Applies the required markings to the product (such as pile identification numbers, customer order numbers, heat numbers and pile locations).
  • Conducts daily equipment & rigging inspections.
  • Constantly monitors equipment for leaks and potential malfunctions.
  • Continuously inspects tools & rigging for defects.
  • Accurately uses hand signals learned from Operators and crew.
  • Understands and measures embedment and / or setting depth.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork to support continuous install operations.
  • Receives materials accurately when required by maintaining organization as well as properly completing the associated paperwork.
  • Proactively manages material layout.
  • Acts as an effective spotter for equipment mobilization
  • Assists with basic maintenance tasks, including shoveling tracks and knows the lubrication points on equipment.
  • Demonstrates good housekeeping habits by keeping the site clean and tidy to prevent injuries and property damage.
  • Seeks out innovative ways to increase production and potential savings.
  • Performance of other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education / Experience

  • Completion of a High School Diploma (or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Experience working on construction worksites preferred.
  • Experience operating machinery is an asset.
  • Knowledge of industry-related tools is an asset.
  • Field safety tickets including First Aid, H2S, CSTS, Fall Protection, and Ground Disturbance are an asset.
  • This is a safety sensitive position and will require candidates to comply with HPS drug and alcohol program. 

Work Environment

  • Construction environment
  • Outdoors, including travel to remote locations
  • Exposure to loud noises
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures
  • Physical elements include bending, twisting, crouching, kneeling, standing for long periods of time, lifting weights up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally with assistance.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be always worn.
  • Fast paced with tight deadlines
  • Accommodations while on a project are arranged by HPS in either a camp setting or hotel as determined by project requirements.
  • Shift work.
  • Work schedule may vary.

Skills Required
