The Role
GrizzlyTrek is seeking one Hydrovac Swamper to join our valued client's team in Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a full-time permanent position. You are a GrizzlyTrek employee, on our payroll, with WCB coverage and benefits, working under the client's supervision.
We are building a hydrovac town crew for a locally owned Fort McMurray hydrovac and mechanical contractor serving Northern Alberta since 2007. The swamper works the back end of the hydrovac truck with the operator, safely excavating and exposing underground utilities on daylighting, slot trenching, pile hole and clean out work.
This crew splits the work evenly between the operator and the swamper. You are half the crew, not the helper.
What You'll Do
  •        Run the back end of the hydrovac truck: handle the wand and hose, manage suction, and control the dig
  •        Expose buried gas lines, electrical conduit, fibre optics and other utilities without damaging them
  •        Set up and tear down the work area, including cones, barricades and spotting for the operator
  •        Clean out manholes, culverts, catch basins and industrial debris
  •        Handle water fill, offload and disposal in line with site requirements
  •        Assist with pre trip and post trip checks and keep the truck and gear clean and ready for the next call
  •        Take part in hazard assessments, tailgate meetings and field level risk assessments, and stop work when conditions are not safe
  •        Work outdoors in Alberta winter conditions alongside your operator
What You Bring
  •        Previous hydrovac swamping experience
  •        Physically fit for sustained outdoor labour, including winter conditions and repeated lifting
  •        Able to pass a pre access drug and alcohol test
  •        Legally entitled to work in Canada
  •        Reliable transportation to the Fort McMurray shop
Preferred Qualifications
  •        Class 3 licence with air brakes. This is not required for the swamper seat, but it is the direct path into the operator seat on this crew and we will support that progression
  •        Experience on Fort McMurray area industrial sites
  •        Vacuum truck, water truck or general oilfield labour background
