Join a team focused on validating optical networking solutions through software and system-level testing. This opportunity provides exposure to networking technologies, automation tools, telemetry systems, and cross-functional collaboration while contributing to product quality and reliability. The role supports learning and development in a technical, team-oriented environment.
How you will make an impact:
  • Execute feature, integration, regression, and system-level validation activities for Waveserver software and hardware releases.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute test plans and test cases covering different service workflows.
  • Validate northbound interfaces including CLI, REST, NETCONF, gNMI/gRPC, OpenConfig, SNMP, and WebSocket management interfaces.
  • Perform verification of streaming telemetry, data collection, performance monitoring, and operational state reporting across supported interfaces.
  • Investigate software defects by analyzing logs, alarms, telemetry data, and system behavior, and collaborate with development teams to drive root-cause resolution.
  • Contribute to test automation initiatives using Python-based frameworks, Jupyter notebooks, and other software tools to improve test coverage and execution efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Development, Systems Engineering, and Technical Support teams to support high-quality product releases and customer satisfaction.
The must haves:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of relevant experience (including internships, co-op terms, academic research, or projects).
  • Understanding of testing concepts including functional, regression, integration, and system testing.
  • Basic knowledge of networking fundamentals and network management concepts.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar technologies to support software development, automation, data analysis, and problem-solving activities.
  • Familiarity with Linux environments and command-line tools.
  • Exposure to Python or other programming languages.
Nice to haves:
  • Knowledge of optical networking, DWDM, coherent optics, Layer 0/1 transport technologies, or telecommunications systems.
  • Exposure to network telemetry, performance monitoring, streaming data, or network analytics concepts.
  • Experience with automation frameworks, CI/CD workflows, Git, Jenkins, Robot Framework, PyTest, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with YANG models, OpenConfig, SNMP, or network management systems.
  • Experience working with test equipment, lab environments, or hardware/software integration testing.
  • Understanding of troubleshooting methodologies and defect lifecycle management.
  • Interest in networking, telecommunications, cloud infrastructure, automation, and software quality engineering.
Pay Range:
The annual pay range for this position is $62,700 - $100,100

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
