Sustainability Lead (Regulated Industry)

Responsibilities:

• Create and execute comprehensive sustainability strategies across multiple major pharmaceutical R&D sites in alignment with corporate ESG goals.
• Establish robust sustainability governance structures and author standardized frameworks, operational procedures, and core performance metrics.
• Enforce consistent, standardized program delivery, reporting, and management across site and account levels.
• Capture and cascade highly effective sustainability initiatives throughout the global corporate portfolio to scale environmental impact.
• Challenge operational norms by identifying and executing calculated risks that optimize long-term asset performance and driving engineering efficiencies for infrastructure growth.
• Lead the Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) sustainability program and contract realization/operation for the organization’s portfolio.
• Conduct extensive technical site assessments and energy analysis to execute targeted energy-saving measures (Energy Kaizen, Energy Audit).
• Collaborate across facility teams to improve decarbonization, electrification, and active energy management monitoring initiatives.
• Partner with major commercial real estate landlords and establish structured communication channels with major utility providers for rebate and utility bill monitoring.
• Manage a multi-scale project portfolio across short, mid, and long-term horizons from planning to successful closure.
• Generate and execute an annual pipeline of sustainability projects designed to meet or exceed corporate ROI commitments and environmental targets.
• Research and integrate financial incentives, grants, and utility rebates from government agencies and utility companies.
• Coordinate with procurement teams to track enterprise-wide energy, water, waste, and utility bill metrics using specialized software tools.
• Manage data aggregation for corporate ESG disclosures and greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting across corporate Scope 1, 2, and 3 profiles.
• Lead and support corporate reporting efforts with third-party organizations such as SBTi and EcoVadis.
• Provide technical support and Compile technical documentation for frameworks including ISO 50001, local emissions requirements (e.g., Boston's BERDO), LEED and laboratory-specific assessments like MyGreenLab.
• Communicate with corporate Renewable Energy teams to align Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to local compliance submissions.
• Integrate sustainable engineering practices into daily Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) workflows while fully satisfying contractual SLAs and KPIs.
• Engage with third-party automation and specialty vendors to guarantee promised service agreements are delivered on time.
• Collaborate with EHS teams to minimize risks during complex facility initiatives.
• Maintain flexible availability to coordinate cross-functional teams and multi-tiered stakeholders across different time zones.
• Create and deliver site-based employee sustainability training programs, measure training effectiveness, and build physical or digital engagement platforms.
• Strong understanding in decarbonization, building electrification, active energy monitoring, and conducting technical site energy analysis.
• Proven ability in ROI calculations, grant tracking, utility rebate integration, and utility bill analysis.
• Competency in specialized ESG data collection software tools for tracking water, waste, and Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions.
• Experience managing critical building technology vendors, including building automation systems.
• Advanced skills in cross-functional team coordination, landlord collaboration (specifically with life-sciences real estate leaders), and global multi-tiered stakeholder management.

Qualifications Requirements/Knowledge/Education/Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in sustainability or a similar role.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to track and report on sustainability metrics.
• Proficiency in energy monitoring systems software and data analysis.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience with CO2 emission tracking and reporting.
• Familiarity with sustainability initiatives and cost-saving measures.
• Strong understanding of environmental regulations and best practices.
