Job DescriptionAt Atlassian Williams F1 Team, our Industrial Placement gives ambitious students 12 months inside Formula 1. You’ll take on real responsibility with projects that shape the future car and our business. Grow with a cohort from day one, then head back to uni with experience you can apply immediately. Vehicle Engineering is at the heart of engineering disciplines with at Atlassian Williams F1 Team. A team of highly skilled and experienced designers work closely with all other engineering disciplines within the team such as Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, Manufacturing and Simulation to name a few, to deliver the car design in relentless pursuit of performance using leading edge manufacturing, design and materials technology.
On this 12-month placement you contribute to the design and delivery of suspension, steering and brake components for current and future cars, as part of the Vehicle Design team. You take designs from concept through to detailed drawings, testing and validation, working across metallic, composite and additive manufacturing materials. You liaise with other engineering disciplines and carry out calculations that inform real design decisions.
- Progress designs from concept through to detailed drawings ready for manufacture
- Carry out calculations and analysis to support designs and work with simulation and structures teams
- Produce test specifications, information packages and reports for factory and trackside parts
- Own faults and take responsibility for resolving issues, showing accountability
- Liaise across engineering disciplines to inform decisions, showing teamwork.
What we are looking for:
- A strong academic background in Mechanical Engineering or a similar degree
- Solid grasp of fundamentals: mechanics, thermodynamics, materials, fluid dynamics, hydraulics and mathematics
- Knowledge of material applications, both metallic and composite
- CAD (computer-aided design) and simulation experience is advantageous, alongside technical drawing and Microsoft Office
