About the role .
We're looking for a hands-on Maintenance Chargehand to lead and coordinate planned and reactive maintenance activity across our manufacturing site.
Reporting to the Maintenance Leader, you'll provide front-line leadership to a team of skilled craftspeople, ensuring work is planned, prioritised and completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You'll work closely with Production, Plant Management, contractors and suppliers to keep plant and equipment reliable and support continuous improvement.
What you'll be doing.
  • Lead, organise and prioritise planned and unplanned maintenance activity during your shift.
  • Support, motivate and develop a team of hourly paid engineering craftspeople, ensuring they have the resources and capability to deliver an excellent service.
  • Communicate daily priorities, review distributed work and agree plans, targets and performance measures with the Maintenance Leader.
  • Respond to maintenance requests, create work orders and provide technical support to tradespeople.
  • Coordinate contractor activity, including site inductions and checking risk assessments and method statements.
  • Partner with Production and other site functions to maintain standards and strengthen working relationships.
  • Investigate equipment-efficiency issues, identify root causes and implement practical solutions.
  • Support site maintenance excellence and lean-manufacturing initiatives.
  • Maintain the reliability and condition of plant and equipment in your designated area, escalating requirements appropriately.
  • Coordinate maintenance-related change activity and record accurate, detailed completion feedback in the CMMS each day.
  • Champion safe working practices and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.

What you'll need to be successful.
  • At least five years' experience in a maintenance environment.
  • Practical multi-skilled engineering experience, including knowledge of relevant engineering legislation.
  • Experience leading people, with the confidence to organise , support and motivate a team.
  • City & Guilds Part 3, ONC or equivalent qualification in a multi-skilled discipline.
  • NVQ Level 2/3, or equivalent, in a multi-skilled engineering discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals and modern maintenance techniques.
  • A recognised health and safety qualification, such as IOSH.
  • Managing Safely and Intermediate Food Hygiene training.
  • A proactive, solutions -focused approach, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and digital maintenance-management systems.
  • Experience of lean manufacturing maintenance practices and an HNC or equivalent would be advantageous.

You'll be based at our Wombourne plant in Staffordshire. And together our small, but perfectly formed team of over 110 colleagues produce our famous (and well loved) potato Smiles as well as our pre-baked Jacket Spuds.
