Position Summary 

 

The Surface Landman will provide land expertise and support in order to timely meet the demands of an active drilling and completion schedule and to assist the marketing and mid-stream functions on surface right-of-way acquisition needs. This position is located in Williston, North Dakota. Hybrid work schedule is an option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Level and salary commensurate with experience.  
 

Essential Job Functions 

 

  • Assist and collaborate with the Development and Execution Teams on the scouting and surface use planning for well pads, access roads, and pipeline corridors  
  • Negotiating and acquiring Road Access and Pipeline Right-of-Way Agreements  
  • Negotiating and drafting Surface Settlement and Surface Lease Agreements  
  • Collaboration with the Houston Land group on special projects including title curative, supplemental abstracting, leasing, and due diligence  
  • Represent the company at local and state governmental meetings and hearings  
  • Additional duties as needed for Company operations

Minimum Qualifications 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • 5 years of job-related experience  
  • Experience with surface-related oil and gas contracts, specifically rights-of-ways, easements, and surface use agreements  
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, specifically Word and Excel  
  • Strong communication and writing skills  
  • Ability to multitask and work with various people and departments  
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality  
  • Ability to meet project deadlines  
  • Strong public relations skills including the ability to deal professionally and diplomatically with landowners and the general public to negotiate land acquisition agreements  
  • Must have a valid driver’s license  
  • Per company insurance requirements, must be 21 years of age or older  
  • Must live within 60 miles of Williston, North Dakota or Watford City, North Dakota 
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

Preferred Qualifications 

 

  • Degree in Energy Commerce, Petroleum Land Management and/or related degree 
  • Experience with FBIR/BIA Right of Way procedures preferred    
  • Experience in the upstream and midstream sector of the oil and gas industry
