POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Supply Chain & Procurement Project Leader is accountable for the design, establishment, and launch of the end-to-end supply chain operating model for major plant startups and other strategic business initiatives. Working in close partnership with the Product Owner, site leadership, Operations, Engineering, Finance, Information Technology, Quality and regional and global Supply Chain partners, this role leads the Supply Chain activities required to take a new operation from concept and project planning through supplier and material readiness, systems implementation, production launch, ramp-up, stabilization, and transition to the permanent site organization.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Own the integrated supply chain, logistics, and procurement readiness plan aligned with the project scope, operating model, implementation timeline, production ramp, and business objectives.
- Lead local supplier identification, evaluation, selection, qualification, and onboarding in partnership with Regional Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, and Operations.
- Ensure supplier agreements, commercial terms, service expectations, and contract requirements are understood, implemented, and monitored throughout the project.
- Partner with Regional Supply Chain to develop and execute raw material and component sourcing strategies that support cost, quality, delivery, capacity, and continuity requirements.
- Lead production planning readiness, including material requirements planning (MRP), capacity planning, inventory parameters, scheduling processes, and integration with the regional Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) process.
- Establish inbound and outbound transportation strategies, including carrier readiness, routing, lead times, delivery schedules, freight requirements, and escalation processes.
- Develop warehousing, storage, material flow, material handling, point-of-use delivery, and finished goods strategies that support safe and efficient operations.
- Define equipment, space, labor, and process requirements for receiving, storage, material movement, packaging, shipping, and finished goods management.
- Lead SAP and related system readiness for supply chain and scheduling processes, including master data, planning parameters, status boards, delivery points, transactions, reporting, testing, and user readiness.
- Establish the initial inventory strategy for launch and ramp, including pipeline requirements, component safety stock levels, raw material, WIP, finished goods, and supplier-held inventory.
- Lead organizational readiness and change management activities to ensure successful adoption of new supply chain processes, systems, roles, and operating practices in support of site startup and ramp-up objectives.
- Coordinate end-to-end supply chain testing and launch-readiness activities, identifying gaps, interdependencies, and recovery actions before startup and production ramp.
- Identify and mitigate supply, capacity, logistics, inventory, and system risks that could affect project timing, customer service, cost, or operational continuity.
- Create and manage the integrated Supply Chain project plan, including milestones, decisions, interdependencies, risks, issue resolution, and progress reporting.
- Establish performance measures and readiness criteria to monitor supplier, material, inventory, logistics, system, and launch performance.
- Build the capability and readiness of the Supply Chain organization through effective talent acquisition, onboarding, development, knowledge transfer, and succession planning.
- Ensure a disciplined transition from project execution to sustained site ownership following launch performance.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This is a highly visible project leadership role requiring broad supply chain and procurement expertise, strong business judgment, and the ability to lead through influence in a complex, cross-functional environment. The position works across business, functional, supplier, and geographic boundaries and must integrate multiple supply chain disciplines into one cohesive startup-readiness strategy.
The role operates with a high degree of independence and is accountable for anticipating supply chain implications, clarifying ownership, escalating risks, and maintaining momentum against project commitments.
Success requires balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution while adapting to changing business needs, regional requirements, supplier conditions, and project priorities.
The key deliverable is a launch-ready operation with the right equipment and materials, in the right quantities, at the right locations, and available at the right time to support production and customer requirements.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, Engineering, or a related field required; advanced degree or relevant professional certification preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in supply chain, procurement, logistics, materials management, or manufacturing operations, including leadership of complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience supporting plant startups, expansions, transfers, transformations, integrations, or other large-scale operational changes strongly preferred.
- Broad knowledge of strategic sourcing, supplier management, procurement, production planning, MRP, capacity planning, SIOP, inventory management, transportation, warehousing, material handling, and finished goods operations.
- Experience with SAP or a comparable ERP system,
- Strong project and change leadership skills, with the ability to translate strategy into clear plans, milestones, ownership, and measurable outcomes.
- Ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional partners, facilitate decisions, resolve ambiguity, manage competing priorities, and drive accountability without direct authority.
- Strong supplier negotiation, contract management, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities, including the use of operational data to identify risks and guide decisions.
- Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and executive communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly to different audiences.
- Experience working across regions and cultures in a global manufacturing organization preferred.
