We are looking for an enthusiastic, and well-organized individual to join our team in the role of Supply Chain Contract Specialist. Reporting to the Senior Director of Global Procurement and Supply Chain Management, this individual will provide subject matter expertise in the effective acquisition of technically complex or commercially risky goods and services in support of Telesat company objectives and program needs, including Telesat Lightspeed, Telesat’s state-of-the-art network of highly advanced satellites in low earth orbit that will seamlessly integrate with terrestrial networks.  
 
Working closely with other functional stakeholders, this role provides the coordination with, and management of suppliers to ensure adherence to all contractual requirements. You will need to be capable of fully understanding requirements for completion of contractual milestones and other Telesat and supplier performance obligations under the contracts, relating to both deliverables and schedule and be able to analyze the contractual implications of proposed changes to specifications, statements of work, and other applicable documents. 
 
The ideal candidate has extensive experience in contract management and supply chain and is eager to be an integral part of a fast-paced and dynamic environment to enable Telesat’s growth.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of corporate policies and purchasing processes in order to mitigate potential risks to Telesat in connection with supply chain management.
  • Procure complex, specialized goods and services.
  • Implement effective and compliant acquisition practices which achieve program and company objectives.
  • Own contractual supply chain management functions for the assigned vendors.
  • Perform supply chain risk assessments, undertake due diligence tasks, champion the down selection and provide procurement expert knowledge in support of the engineering/project team.
  • Collaborate with Legal department to draft and implement all contract templates including purchase agreements, amendments, renewals, Statements of Work, framework agreements, licensing agreements, consulting service agreements, non-disclosure agreements, general terms, correspondence and terminations.
  • Monitor established supplier contracts through to completion, including tasks such as organizing and attending periodic stakeholder meetings, reporting, manage scope change and variations to contracts, invoice approval.
  • Identify any risks, communicate them to internal stakeholders and recommend mitigation strategies such that appropriate decisions are made regarding the choice of suppliers and products.
  • Demonstrate effective financial stewardship through budget monitoring and ongoing cost reduction goal setting to deliver value.
  • Seek out continuous improvements to procurement related systems and processes.
  • Establish, foster, and maintain good working relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders from all operating units within Telesat.

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelors university degree in a relevant discipline such as Commerce, Finance, or Engineering OR a college degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, or Administration;
  • Three to five years experience working in supply chain or procurement, ideally in complex technology-based environment;
  • A professional designation in Procurement (e.g., CSCMP) is desirable but not mandatory;
  • Experience in the planning, developing, and maintaining of contract processes, contract drafting and negotiations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications (oral & written) skills;
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing ethics, practices, and policies;
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems and resolve issues;
  • Capacity to manage time in a fast-paced environment with occasionally overlapping priorities to meet or exceed requirements and expectations;
  • Detail oriented, highly motivated and results-focused;
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively part of a team;
    Bilingual in English and French an asset (but not required).
  • The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

  • Three to five years experience in supply chain or procurement, ideally in complex technology environments
  • Experience planning, developing, and maintaining contract processes, including contract drafting and negotiations
  • Proven ability to procure complex, specialized goods and services and manage supplier relationships
  • Experience performing supply chain risk assessments, due diligence, and supplier selection/down-selection
  • Ability to collaborate with Legal to draft and implement contract templates (purchase agreements, SOWs, amendments, NDAs, licensing agreements)
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing ethics, practices, and policies
  • Demonstrated financial stewardship including budget monitoring and cost reduction initiatives
  • Ability to manage time and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment; detail oriented and results-focused
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team
  • Professional procurement designation (e.g., CSCMP)
  • Bilingual in English and French
  • Must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
