Take a lead role in driving the Companys safety, health, and environmental programs for the Instrumentation and Controls Department, helping shape a strong culture of safety and operational excellence. Play a key part in the stations work control process, supporting operations across all Con Edison Steam Generating Stations. Apply your expertise to efficiently deploy personnel and materials in the calibration, maintenance, testing, repair, analysis, and overhaul of critical power plant equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, protective relays, and auxiliary systems. Leverage real-time data and historical trending from the Stations PI and EDS systems to identify emergent issues, perform root cause analysis, and support ongoing system performance and reliability.
This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.
ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities- Accountable for ensuring the safety, productivity, and quality of work performed by Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) technicians, including all maintenance and testing activities within the assigned section.
- Supervise union personnel, enforce contractual and local work rules, assign work in alignment with the stations weekly schedule, and manage daily administrative tasks in the Maximo work management system.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, and evaluate compliance testing; recommend and review procedures to enhance system reliability; and support commissioning of new equipment through test reviews.
- Direct troubleshooting, repair, and restoration efforts for equipment and control circuits.
- Ensure compliance of the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) by coordinating and completing corrective and preventative maintenance, as well as audits required for annual EPA recertification of analyzers.
- Maintain and update security and software for Transient Cyber Assets (TCAs).
- Participate in daily management meetings to report job progress, maintain full knowledge of work scopes, and submit clear and concise work requests.
- Deliver high-quality customer service across all areas of responsibility.
- Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and program procedures applicable to Steam Operations Generating Stations.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and detail-oriented skills to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Promote a Zero Accident Culture, Diversity & Inclusion, Operational Excellence, effective cost management, and enhanced customer experience, while adhering to the Companys Standards of Business Conduct and EH&S policies.
- Lead On-the-Job Training (OJT), conduct effective job briefings, and ensure documented job site safety exchanges.
- Administer Company policies and Collective Bargaining Agreement provisions, including conducting interviews, managing disciplinary actions, resolving grievances, and evaluating employee performance.
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience relevant to power plants, US Navy, or merchant shipping environment, or
- Associate's Degree and 4 years work experience relevant to power plants, US Navy, or merchant shipping environment, or
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years work experience relevant to power plants, US Navy, or merchant shipping environment.
- The ability to analyze performance trends and make recommendations for efficient and reliable operation of steam generating stations, required.
- The ability to comprehend and interpret engineering drawings (including schematics, one-line diagrams, P&IDs and function logic diagrams) and be able to provide marked prints of field conditions, required.
- Knowledge of safe work practices/procedures, operating orders, work permits and use of appropriate personal protective equipment, required.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills along with the ability to work as part of a team, required.
- Prior supervisory work experience, preferred.

- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to work on elevated platforms, scaffolds, catwalks, roofs, and/or other equipment
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Use hand-eye coordination to adjust controls on equipment
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
