The primary responsibility of the Supervisor, Hospital Services, is to supervise component storage and delivery activities to insure that adequate levels of product are available and hospital orders are filled in a timely manner. This position involves constant interaction and contact with Hospital Services Tech's, other Center staff and hospital personnel. The Supervisor, Hospital Services, is expected to make decisions relative to safety issues, company policies and to provide immediate direction for Hospital Services Techs I, II and III.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet and exceed customer expectations and adhere to established quality practices while seeking to continually improve work performance.
- Provides supervision and guidance for Hospital Services Techs I, II and III to ensure component storage and delivery is performed in a safe and cost effective manner. Assures that all company policies and procedures are followed at all times.
- Ensures that preparations are made for departmental activities on a daily basis. Ensures that all product and components orders from service hospitals are filled in a timely manner.
- Monitors product inventory levels at all times so that levels do not fall below established minimum levels. Notifies Coordinator when levels cannot be maintained. Obtains necessary approvals upon receipt of requests from other Centers to ship blood or components or when an order for blood or components must be made from other Centers.
- Ensures all policies and procedures issued by the Blood Center, regulatory agencies (i.e. FDA), governmental agencies (i.e. OSHA), and accrediting agencies (i.e. AABB) are followed and there is compliance with good manufacturing practices (GMP).
- Conducts and participates in various meetings, such as in-service training, continuing education programs, safety meetings. Teaches new procedures and assesses skills.
- Ensures the functional work area, all equipment and vehicles are properly maintained, organized, and cleaned; reporting malfunctioning equipment.
- Makes decisions pertaining to work duties as permitted under Company policies and procedures, referring to the Assistant Coordinator or Coordinator any problems, situations or occurrences which could possibly harm a patient or employee, cause adverse opinions of the Center or the Company, or interfere with the operations of the department or Center.
- Ensures that quality control procedures are followed to determine acceptability of equipment or reagents.
- Completes assigned paperwork and reports as directed.
- Drives a Company vehicle as necessary to make deliveries to service hospitals or other Centers.
- May be required to perform procedures associated with the preparation, labeling, storage and shipping of blood and components.
- Is responsible for working with all other supervisors, the Assistant Coordinator and Coordinator to maintain adequate supervision of work performance in all departments.
- Performs any and all other duties as may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Associate’s degree in related field, and
- At least three (3) years of related experience, including supervisory experience, or at least six (6) years as a Sr. Component Tech; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the duties of the job.
- Must be familiar with or demonstrate ability to learn all FDA regulations governing blood banking, AABB standards, OSHA regulations, and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
- Must demonstrate a positive attitude toward technicians and other staff members, acting in a highly professional manner at all times.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of donor information at all times.
- Ability to learn and utilize product inventory tracking system.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to lift and operate equipment, such as a centrifuge, hematron, containers of blood bags and related supplies, weighing up to 40 lbs., unassisted.
- Must be able to perform duties which require standing or bending for long periods of time without relief.
- Must be able to work irregular hours, often in excess of 8 hours per day, and weekends and holidays; requires on call duty for responding to emergencies.
- Must be able to work with needles, scissors, blood bags, human blood and blood processing equipment and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Work involves potential exposure to infectious diseases from blood and blood products.
- Requires operation of a Company vehicle for blood transport; must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by our commercial auto insurance carrier.

Skills Required
