POSITION PROFILE: (Basic Purpose of Position)
Responsibility for all US GAAP and SOX requirements of defined Avantor companies. Legal and fiscal compliance in relation to financial reporting and adherence to and compliance with internal SOX controls processes.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIITIES
- Ability to execute assigned responsibilities accurately and within agreed timelines, exhibiting strong end‑to‑end ownership and professional curiosity to understand the underlying accounting rationale.
- Lead and manage the controllership team, including accountants and senior accountants responsible for Switzerland and Austria legal entities, demonstrating strong leadership and influencing skills to achieve functional outcomes.
- Management of the month end close accounts and US GAAP reporting information.
- Flux review of the BS and P&L with appropriate commentary with support from FP&A.
- Responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial information and the smooth operation of monthly accounting operations
- Manage changes to the local internal control’s environment, identifying opportunities for efficiency while maintaining or enhancing overall control effectiveness. Promote a strong SOX control culture across non‑finance functions, monitor the effectiveness of controls performed by other teams, and actively drive remediation of identified deficiencies. Maintain MCRs for Tier 3 entities.
- Responsible for Corporate Income Tax compliance, US GAAP accounting, and support for statutory reporting in the respective countries, including OneSource tax preparation and review.
- Co-ordination of audits
- Statistics reporting /Environmental reporting
- Balance sheet reconciliation review (Blackline), Segregation of Duties reviews
- Review of customer contracts to ensure compliance with USGAAP ASC606 (Local language).
- Information collections and sharing for group operations, Treasury, Tax, Legal, HR, Internal Audit.
- Support for corporate request
- Support to sales when considering legal and tax changes and the implication to the business including support in the test for SAP changes.
- Ensuring that the business complies with corporate accounting policies (USGAAP) and local statutory GAAP.
- Capex and PO approval (Fiori), Invoice approval (Process Director).
- Ensuring that the business complies with the Global and Local Delegation of Authorities (DOA).
- Being the finance contact for the local organization.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)
- Business degree with five or more years of proven experience in a similar role within a multinational or large company environment (or qualified by experience in a similar role)
- Proven experience of working through complex financial issues with little direction
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & COMPETENCIES (Those necessary to achieve conformity of products and services)
- US GAAP accounting knowledge an advantage
- Prioritisation of workload in a fast-paced working environment
- Ability to deliver commitments and carry through on projects
- Self-starter with high levels of professional integrity
- ERP system skills – preferably SAP with some experience of system development/implementation
- Excellent team player with the ability to build working relationships between and across business teams
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and in a challenging environment
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT (Under Typical Positions)
Work assignments are diversified. Examples of past precedent are used to resolve work problems. New alternatives may be developed to resolve problems.
A frequent level of workload and deadlines produces strain on a routine basis.
Minimal physical effort is required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically weigh less than 10 lbs.
