Creating life-changing solutions that enable transplant patients to thrive.
The Role

CareDx, Inc. is a leading precision medicine solutions company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of clinically differentiated, high-value healthcare solutions for transplant patients and caregivers. CareDx offers products, testing services, and digital healthcare solutions along the pre- and post-transplant patient journey, and is the leading provider of genomics-based information for transplant patients.

The Summer UI/UX Researcher Internship provides the opportunity to contribute directly to the design of data‑driven digital experiences used by clinicians, scientists, and internal teams. The intern will support the creation of intuitive dashboards, user workflows, and research‑informed design improvements that enhance decision‑making in healthcare settings. Working closely with engineering, clinical, and product stakeholders, the intern will participate in user research, translate insights into actionable recommendations, and gain hands‑on experience in a collaborative, cross‑functional environment. The internship concludes with a capstone project that brings together your research findings and learning, culminating in a final presentation to share with the team.

Responsibilities

  • Support UI/UX design for internal and external data web application, including layouts, navigation, filtering, and data visualization concepts.
  • Translate and apply medical reasoning, biological science, product requirements, and clinical workflows into wireframes, user flows, and high-fidelity UI designs.
  • Create and maintain design assets in tools such as Figma and Lucid (e.g., Lucidchart/Lucidspark), including documentation for handoff.
  • Contribute to usability and feedback collection efforts, including survey design using proper survey methodology (question design, bias avoidance, response scaling, and sampling considerations).
  • Assist with user research activities such as stakeholder interviews, feedback sessions, and lightweight usability testing.
  • Synthesize feedback and research findings into clear insights and recommended design improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering to support implementation details, UX specs, and iterative improvements.
  • Help ensure designs align with accessibility, clarity, and consistency standards for products used in healthcare settings.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Health Informatics, or a related field, with strong domain knowledge in biology and disease area (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Demonstrated experience creating UI/UX deliverables (wireframes, prototypes, user flows, design systems/components), ideally shown through a portfolio.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Figma and Lucid (or similar).
  • Interest in designing for data-dense products (dashboards, analytics, reporting) and/or healthcare/clinical workflows.
  • Understanding of user-centered design principles and basic UX research methods.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship, project, or class experience in designing web application user interface or clinical research.
  • Experience drafting and deploying surveys (Qualtrics, Microsoft Forms, SurveyMonkey, etc.) and summarizing findings.
  • Familiarity with accessibility guidelines (WCAG/POUR) and designing for readability in clinical contexts.
  • Exposure to design handoff practices and working with engineers.

What We Do

CareDx: Transforming Transplant Patient Care Through Novel Surveillance Management Solutions CareDx, Inc. is dedicated to improving the lives of organ transplant patients through non-invasive diagnostics. By combining the latest advances in genomics and bioinformatics technology, with a commitment to generating high quality clinical evidence through trials and registries, CareDx is at the forefront of organ transplant surveillance and pre-transplant HLA typing solutions. NASDAQ:CDNA About AlloSure® AlloSure is the first and only non-invasive blood test that directly measures allograft injury and identifies the probability of active rejection to better manage kidney transplant patients. AlloSure is a clinical-grade, proprietary Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) based test to detect donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) in order to identify organ injury in kidney transplant recipients. AlloSure is analytically validated as a sensitive, specific, and precise measurement of dd-cfDNA. AlloSure detects active rejection (acute active ABMR, chronic active ABMR, or TCMR) with high accuracy, outperforms serum creatinine in kidney transplant recipients, and is highly sensitive in distinguishing ABMR from no ABMR. AlloSure is performed in the CareDx CLIA-certified laboratory. http://www.allosure.com/ About AlloMap® AlloMap Molecular Expression Testing is a non-invasive blood test used to aid in the identification of heart transplant recipients with stable allograft function who have a low probability of moderate/severe acute cellular rejection at the time of testing in conjunction with standard clinical assessment. AlloMap testing measures the expression levels of 20 genes from a blood sample. The combined expression of these genes is represented as an AlloMap test score. AlloMap is performed in the CareDx CLIA-certified laboratory and has been commercially available in the United States since 2005. AlloMap was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2008 and was CE marked for the European Union in 2011. Use of AlloMap is also included in the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) Practice Guidelines, published in August 2010, the worldwide standard for the care of heart transplant patients. http://www.allomap.com/
