General purpose: The Summer Orientation Intern helps the Center for Student Engagement staff plan and host Fall Orientation for incoming first-year and transfer students.

Summary of Essential Functions 
  • Work with 2 Student Orientation Directors (SODs) and 25 Orientation Leaders (OLs).

  • Work with the SODs to develop the communication from the Center for Student Engagement to the incoming first-year and transfer students.

  • Work with supervisor and SODs to develop logistical plans for Orientation Leader Training and Orientation Programming.

  • Assists in coordinating and hosting Orientation Leader training.

  • Plan and host the Campus Resource Fair with assistance from the Student Involvement Specialist.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and implementation of Orientation branding and marketing materials

  • Design social and community-building programs for the Orientation Leaders and the Orientation program.

  • Serve as a member of the Orientation Planning Committee and collaborate with multiple offices.

  • Manage the social media outreach to incoming students alongside the SODs.

  • Serve as a professional staff point of contact for the Orientation Leaders during the Orientation program.

  • Work with SODs to co-host social events throughout the summer and during Orientation for incoming students.

  • Plan, coordinate, and host the Campus Resource Fair with assistance from the Student Involvement Specialist.

  • Contact internal and external offices to participate in the Campus Resource Fair.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
  • Demonstrated strong digital engagement skills

  • Knowledge of student leadership training models and new student programs

  • Demonstrates efficient time management while prioritizing workload 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with collaborators and teammates, via email and in-person

  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others

  • Ability to work independently on tasks

  • Ability to consider the diverse needs and interests of the MICA student body, and address these through intentional and thoughtful programming

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates Degree.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.

  • A desire to serve the MICA community. 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Student supervisory experience. 

  • Prior experience in program/event planning preferred but not required.

  • Prior experience in new student orientation and student leader training preferred but not required.

Compensation
  • $18/hr

  • Meals during trainings

  • 10 meal swipes during New Student Orientation

  • 2 Orientation T-Shirts and other Orientation swag

  • On-Campus housing over the summer (if needed)

Conditions of Employment 
  • Background check required. 

  • Preferred availability from June 1 - August 28, 2026

  • Up to 10 hours per week June 1 – August 7 , 2026

  • Up to 15 hours per week August 10 – August 23, 2026

  • Up to 10 hours per week August 24 – August 28, 2026

  • The Summer Orientation Intern is expected to attend mandatory trainings and events, as outlined below:

  • Orientation Leader Training: Wednesday, August 12 – Tuesday, August 18, 2026 

  • Must be available every day of Fall Orientation (Wednesday, August 19 – Sunday, August 23, 2026) with flexible on-call hours

  • Convocation: Morning of Tuesday, August 25th before morning classes.

  • Some late nights, weekends, and evenings are required.
