About Lucid Bots
Lucid Bots builds robotic solutions that are used in the real world—by real operators—to solve real problems. Our robots help extend human reach by enabling dangerous and demanding work to be done more safely and efficiently.
Headquartered in Charlotte, we design, engineer, manufacture, and support our products domestically. Our production-ready robots, including the Sherpa and Lavo, are deployed by customers around the world. Teams work closely across engineering, manufacturing, sales, and operations, and individuals are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and take ownership early. There’s a strong sense of momentum here and excitement around what we’re building together.
Lucid Bots is venture-backed and was recently recognized as one of the fastest-growing manufacturing companies in the United States. It’s the kind of place where you can see how your work connects to the bigger picture, learn directly from experienced teammates, and be part of a company that’s still writing its story.
About the Internship ProgramThis is Lucid Bots’ inaugural 10-week summer internship program, built for students who want real, hands-on experience at a fast-growing robotics company. Interns are fully embedded on their teams and contribute to meaningful work that supports our products, customers, and day-to-day execution.
As one of our first interns, you’ll join Lucid Bots at a defining stage in our growth. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and business leaders, gain exposure to how a robotics company operates and scales, and see how ideas move from concept to execution in a real production environment.
We’re intentionally keeping this program small to ensure interns have real responsibility, close mentorship, and a clear view of how the business operates. This is an opportunity to build practical experience, develop strong working relationships, and be part of Lucid Bots during an important moment in our company’s story.
The RoleAs an Engineering Intern, you’ll work alongside our engineering team on real product and process challenges related to robotic hardware and systems. This is a hands-on role designed for students who want practical experience in a fast-paced, product-driven environment—and who are excited to take ownership of real engineering problems from start to finish.
We’re looking for interns who can think holistically about a system. That means understanding how mechanical, electrical, and software components come together to create a working robot. Many strong candidates will come from a mechatronics background, but students from other engineering disciplines who can demonstrate end-to-end ownership and systems thinking are encouraged to apply.
You’ll be paired with a dedicated mentor and embedded into active projects that support our robotics platform, manufacturing processes, or testing and validation efforts. Interns are treated as contributors, not observers—you’ll be trusted with meaningful work and encouraged to build, test, iterate, and learn through doing.
What You’ll Do- Own and support engineering projects that span mechanical, electrical, and software considerations
- Assist with prototyping, testing, debugging, data analysis, and technical documentation
- Work hands-on with hardware, sensors, actuators, and embedded or system-level software
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, and Product teams
- Participate in design reviews, team meetings, and structured problem-solving sessions
- Present a summary of your work and key learnings at the end of the internship
- Currently a Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Engineering—ideally Robotics or Mechatronics, though Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering disciplines are also encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated ability (or strong desire) to own a project end-to-end, from concept through execution
- Curiosity, initiative, and comfort working across disciplines rather than staying in a single lane
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) on-site in Charlotte, NC for the duration of the program
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
- Prior project, lab, or internship experience is a plus, but not required
- Real-world engineering experience on products that ship to customers
- 1:1 mentorship from an experienced Lucid Bots engineer
- Exposure to startup-style execution with real ownership and accountability
- Ongoing feedback and professional development throughout the internship
Resumes tell part of the story—but for engineering roles, your work speaks loudest.
As part of your application, we strongly encourage you to submit examples of projects or work you’re proud of. This could include:
- Personal, academic, or club projects
- Robotics builds, hardware prototypes, or system integrations
- Code repositories, CAD models, videos, or documentation
Show us the most impressive thing you’ve ever built.
We’re less concerned with polish and more interested in how you think, build, and solve problems.
We Want to Meet YouDon’t just apply. Stand out.
The reality: On paper, many resumes look the same—especially for early-career engineering roles. We don’t hire paper; we hire people.
While a video is technically optional, it is one of the best ways to help us understand how you think and what excites you.
The promise: This is not a black hole. If you take the time to record it, we will take the time to watch it.
What to send (2 minutes max):
- Please don’t read from a script
- Don’t worry about editing or production value
- Just open your camera and talk to us
We’d love to hear:
- Why here? What excites you about Lucid Bots and the work we’re doing in robotics?
- Why you? What’s one thing about how you build, think, or solve problems that doesn’t show up on a resume?
If you want the highest probability of an interview, we strongly encourage you to submit a video.
If you’re not sure where to record, a simple tool like Loom works great.
