What We Are Looking For:
We’re looking for a Network Development Engineering Intern to join the Core Voice Engineering and Technology team for Summer 2026. In this role you’ll work alongside Principal Engineers and Architects who design and evolve Bandwidth’s global voice network and communication platforms.
This internship focuses on the intersection of networking, software development, and cloud infrastructure. You’ll explore how large-scale voice systems are built, contribute to prototypes and technical investigations, and help evaluate new technologies that shape the future of Bandwidth’s communications platform.
You’ll gain exposure to cloud-native infrastructure, programmable networking, and distributed systems, while building software and tools that help engineers design and operate modern communication networks.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys understanding how systems work under the hood, experimenting with new technologies, and building small projects that explore new ideas.
What You'll Do:
- Work with Principal Engineers and Architects to explore new approaches for evolving Bandwidth’s voice network architecture and cloud infrastructure.
- Contribute to projects, proof-of-concepts, and prototypes involving voice networking, distributed systems, and programmable infrastructure.
- Build small software tools, scripts, or services that help engineers experiment with or analyze network behavior.
- Explore how cloud platforms such as AWS support large-scale communication systems and network services.
- Assist with evaluating open-source telecom platforms and cloud-native networking technologies.
- Participate in technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and engineering knowledge sharing.
- Document findings, experiments, and insights to support future platform development.
What You Need:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Networking, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Experience with a programming language such as Python, Go, JavaScript, or similar.
- Comfortable working in a Linux or Unix environment.
- Basic understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing concepts, internet protocols).
- Interest in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or networking platforms.
Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.
Bonus Points:
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Coursework or projects involving computer networking or distributed systems.
- Familiarity with voice protocols such as SIP or RTP.
- Experience experimenting with open-source telephony platforms such as Asterisk or FreeSWITCH.
Interest in building infrastructure tools, network automation, or developer platforms.

What We Do
Bandwidth is a software company that’s transforming the way people communicate and challenging the standards of old telecom. Together with our customers, we’re unlocking remarkable value, questioning the status quo, and helping people interact with technology and one another, oftentimes in ways they never dreamed possible. Haven’t heard of Bandwidth? You’ve probably used one of our products before. We power some of the most important communications technologies on the market today—names like Google, Skype and Ring Central to name a few. At Bandwidth, we’ve got a passion for doing things the other way—imagining what they could be and uncovering opportunities to take a new approach to create what should be. We’re out to disrupt the century-old rules of the telecom industry—and that means doing things differently in every area of our business. It’s in the way we treat our people, and how we create with our customers. Whether our engineering teams are crunching code during all-night hack-a-thons or our team members are competing in a Big Idea competition, we love to dive in and get our hands dirty. No idea at Bandwidth is too big or too small, and every voice gets a listen. Our folks have diverse backgrounds from all over the world. Crave innovation? We live for it. No one here is getting a blue ribbon for shaking their head and agreeing with the higher ups. At Bandwidth, we don’t hold back. We speak our minds, share our ideas—and let them soar. We think, we dream, we reimagine what’s possible…because we know that’s the only way we can unlock remarkable value. And that’s what really gets us fired up.
