Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Strategic Initiatives Manager, Oncology Data Ventures

This is a rare chance to shape how cutting-edge cancer science reaches the organizations advancing research and drug development. Join a team where you'll serve as the critical link between deep scientific expertise and commercial strategy — evaluating, packaging, and championing oncology data products for pharma and industry partners. If you're energized by working at the true merge point of science and business, this role was made for you.

Role Overview

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on the MSK real world clinical and molecular oncology database, educating external companies about the project and answering detailed scientific and technical questions from prospective and existing partners.

  • Shape the future of the oncology database by identifying and evaluating opportunities to license and expand its use across the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Build and grow partnerships with pharma companies through outreach and ongoing negotiation, balancing scientific integrity with business objectives.

  • Partner directly with scientific, clinical, and business stakeholders to represent the product — understanding what partners want to know, including data type, scope, and composition.

  • Oversee real-world data generated through patient care and day-to-day research, bundling and tailoring it into offerings suited to different pharma partners.

  • Drive the ongoing "merge between the science and the business," ensuring product decisions stay scientifically grounded while meeting commercial goals.

  • Translate complex scientific and clinical concepts into clear, compelling material for non-scientific and commercial audiences.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to partners navigating the scientific nuances of the data, building long-term credibility and repeat engagement.

  • Identify gaps or opportunities in the current data offering by staying close to both the science and evolving partner needs.

  • Support cross-functional coordination between scientific, clinical, technical, and business teams to keep the product aligned and moving forward.

  • Track partner engagement and product usage to inform future data packaging and outreach strategy.

Key Qualifications

  • Background spanning both science and business, with credibility operating in each domain.

  • Knowledge of cancer biology, clinical cancer genomics, and clinical oncology.

  • Computational proficiency, including SQL or Python, to navigate and describe complex datasets.

  • Experience or strong interest in data licensing, partnerships, or business development within life sciences.

  • Comfort engaging directly with pharma or industry partners, including fielding detailed technical questions in real time.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with scientists, clinicians, and business teams to align product direction.

  • Strong grounding in real-world data (RWD) generated through patient care and research settings, and how it's used downstream.

  • Experience translating scientific or clinical findings into business-relevant insights or product decisions.

Core Skills

  • Deep scientific fluency — science is the foundation, and being able to translate it into business value is the differentiator.

  • Business acumen for partner outreach, negotiation, and relationship management.

  • Computational/data skills (SQL) for engaging with complex datasets.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills for educating partners and answering detailed inquiries.

  • Ability to balance and integrate scientific rigor with commercial priorities.
