What You’ll Do
Mentor and uplift technical capability within the chapter by guiding teams in software engineering practices, emerging technologies, tools, and agile processes.
Shape and evolve technical architecture by contributing to mid- and long-term technology roadmaps across domains.
Own engineering operations for services deployed by DevOps teams, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance in production.
Foster scalable architecture across teams, enabling iterative and autonomous development while minimizing future change costs.
Model commercial thinking, balancing cost and value to guide teams toward economically sound decisions that deliver strong outcomes.
Promote observability, helping teams leverage operational data to enhance system stability and performance.
Champion a security-first mindset, collaborating with security teams to embed organizational security strategies and continuously improve practices.
Lead through uncertainty, making responsible decisions and guiding teams during routine operations and high-pressure situations.
Cultivate a culture of knowledge sharing, encouraging documentation, feedback, and continuous learning across teams.
Influence organizational strategy, drawing on deep domain expertise to contribute to planning, practices, and cross-team alignment.
Model Telstra’s values, facilitating inclusive discussions that align teams with strategic goals and drive continuous improvement.
Support recruitment efforts, helping build high-performing teams through hiring and onboarding of permanent and partner resources.

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but there are some must-haves tech skills which are required to do the job and some good-to-have which will set you up for success in this team.
About You
Essential Skills
Strong background in Java, Python, Node.js, and related frameworks; advocate of clean code practices.
Proven experience in software product architecture, development, testing, and production support.
Hands-on experience designing and implementing secure, scalable, fault-tolerant systems in AWS.
Deep understanding of microservices architecture and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, or similar).
Experience in operational decision-making and managing production incidents effectively.
Solid understanding of authentication, authorization, and zero-trust security principles.
Proficiency in both SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
Strong experience in CI/CD, source control, and pipelines as code to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality.
Clear understanding of version control systems and branching strategies, including their trade-offs and benefits.
Desirable (Growth Areas)
Experience with one or more COTS/SaaS products such as SAP, Oracle EPM, Workday, or UKG.
Familiarity with API gateway technologies like APIGEE, Nginx, or similar.
Exposure to tools such as New Relic, Splunk, Datadog, or ELK stack.
Experience using JMeter or similar tools for performance and load testing.
Proficiency in Linux environments and command-line operations.
Exposure to AI/ML frameworks, tools, or use cases in software engineering.
