Chewy is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Marketing Technology team in Boston, MA or Plantation, FL. Marketing Technology plays a critical role in supporting this mission, delivering cutting-edge AI/ML-powered automated services and web applications to promote ad, campaign, and conversion efficiency. In this role, the ideal candidate will work across multiple teams, influencing decisions and owning several services or products, while developing and executing highly complex and ambiguous implementations. This technical leader will guide peers and /or small teams of engineers on the use of architecture, coding patterns, languages, and frameworks in accordance with industry trends. We continue to grow and always Think Big about new innovative ideas, while consistently exploring opportunities to differentiate ourselves in the industry.
What You’ll Do:
- Autonomously execute system design, UI/UX design, debugging, development, and release of full-stack application modules to promote automation and efficiency in critical marketing areas
- Actively lead team members and participate in the definition, design, development, testing and implementation of software functionality
- Define code quality requirements, including but not limited to use of optimal data structures, algorithms, and design patterns, and gates for their team, provides constructive feedback and promotes collaborative solutions during review process
- Mentor team members to understand and adhere to related best practices
- Lead team on mitigation, resolution, and investigation and continuous improvement for complex production problems that span across services, including participation in on-call rotations and contributions to operational excellence
- Serve as SME (and may serve as an architect or top-level SME) on a defined domain, program, or functional area
- Represent the team and provide project status to stakeholders at cross-functional forums
- Lead team members and advise stakeholders on improvements and optimizations to features, practices, processes, and operations
- Influence software engineering team hiring practices and hiring decisions
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar; or equivalent experience
- Minimum 10+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on front-end, including the ability to perform independent analysis and owning components and services
- Experience creating design patterns and technology spanning ecosystems and influencing across multiple teams
- Deep knowledge of major front-end development frameworks like Angular, React, Vue
- Understanding of major backend frameworks in languages including Python, Java, Go (e.g., Django, Spring Boot, Gin)
- Experience designing services and architecture in adherence to best practices and requirements
- Demonstrated ability to work and effectively communicate with internal clients leveraging custom-built applications
- Ability to balance multiple priorities at a given time
- Must be team oriented and have a customer first mindset
- Strong analytical abilities
- Position may require travel 10% or less
Bonus (if applicable):
- 3+ years acting in a technical lead capacity
- Experience leading technical teams in the development and delivery of projects
- Experience deploying AI/ML services as part of web applications a major plus
- Experience working in e-commerce
