Position Summary
A Staff Data Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining high-performance, scalable, and secure data and database systems that support critical business applications. This role involves overseeing data architecture, optimizing queries, creating data pipelines, leveraging AI and ML, while ensuring data integrity, availability, and reliability across environments.
The StaƯ Data Engineer collaborates with development and QA engineers, product management, and infrastructure teams to design eƯicient data models, data flows and support development, including emerging AI/ML-driven data use cases and intelligent application patterns.
They are experienced in database technologies such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL, and possess strong expertise in performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization, with an understanding of how modern and emerging data platforms support analytics, machine learning, and LLM-enabled applications.
Responsibilities
Cloud & Platform Expertise
- Architect, monitor and manage data platforms in AWS, Azure and Private Clouds, including services like:
- AWS RDS, Redshift, Glue, S3, Lambda, AWS Aurora, Elasticache, Neptune
- Azure Managed Instances, Azure VMs with IaaS extension, Azure SQL, Synapse, ADF Data Factory, Blob Storage, Azure Fabric
- Ensure secure, scalable, and cost-eƯective cloud data infrastructure
- Support data platform readiness for AI/ML workloads, including scalable data access patterns, large-scale retrieval, and integration with modern AI services
Data Engineering & Integration
- Design and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using tools like Airflow, Kafka, Debezium, Qlik
- Support real-time and batch data processing needs across business units
- Collaborate with application teams to modernize legacy systems and integrate new platforms
- Enable data pipelines that support advanced analytics, machine learning, and emerging AI-assisted or agentic workflows
Tooling & Automation
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell and other scripting languages
- Implement CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure and code deployments
- Leverage modern developer productivity tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot or similar AI-assisted
- tools) to improve engineering eƯiciency and code quality where appropriate
Preferred Skills & Technologies
- Databases: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, Neptune
- Cloud: AWS (RDS, Redshift, Glue, Neptune, Aurora, Scaleout), Azure (SQL VMs, Synapse,
- Data Factory, Managed Instances, Azure DB, Fabric)
- Data Tools: Kafka, Debezium, Airflow, Qlik, Looker
- Monitoring: New Relic, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor
- Scripting: PowerShell, Python, Bash
- Other: Git, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes
- Familiarity with AI/ML ecosystem concepts such as LLM integrations (e.g., OpenAI,
- Claude, Llama), embeddings, vector data patterns, or model-driven data access is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in data engineering, database administration, or infrastructure roles
- Deep understanding of data architecture, performance tuning, and high-availability systems
- Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor and inspire
- Self-starter who thrives with minimal supervision and takes full ownership of
- responsibilities
- Exposure to AI/ML-driven data applications or intelligent systems is highly preferred
