The Futures team is building Futures trading and Prediction Markets as new asset classes on Robinhood, recently launched in 2025. We aim to be the best place for our customers to trade Futures across Stock indices, Crypto, Gold and many other assets in a safe and accessible manner along with providing a frictionless, innovative and cost-efficient experience that our customers love and have come to expect from us.
As a Staff Backend Engineer, you’ll lead complex technical initiatives, shape architectural decisions, and drive platform-level improvements. You’ll mentor engineers across the org and contribute to a high-performance engineering culture. This is a high-impact role for a hands-on technical leader who enjoys building scalable backend systems and enabling others to do the same.
This role is based in our New York, NY office, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

What you’ll doDesign, build, and maintain foundational backend systems that serve millions of customers
Lead cross-functional engineering projects with significant impact and visibility
Define and evolve platform best practices and frameworks across the organization
Provide deep technical mentorship to other engineers and review critical design decisions
Partner with security, product, and infrastructure teams to ensure system robustness, scalability, and compliance
10+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems in production
Deep expertise in backend programming (e.g., Python, Go, Java) and cloud-native architecture
Strong system design and software engineering fundamentals
Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives and mentoring engineers
Ability to simplify complex problems and communicate technical solutions clearly

The expected base pay range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones.
