This position is responsible for providing professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. This position will provide training and education classes to medical assistants, educate patients individually and in groups on disease processes and health prevention, and work collaboratively with others on large health initiative projects.

General Responsibilities

  • Performs general nursing care to patients.
  • Utilizes accepted protocols and procedures to aid in decision-making.
  • Observes, records and reports patients condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Oversees appointment bookings and ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations.
  • Maintains timely flow of patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Instruct patients in the collection of samples and tests.
  • Arranges for patient testing and admissions.
  • Directs, responds, and refers incoming telephone calls.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Maintains and reviews patients records, charts, and other pertinent information.
  • Post-test and examination results in the patients cart.
  • Works collaboratively with operations manager to improve patient care and increase provider productivity by ensuring the smooth flow of patients.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials.
  • Ensures cleanliness. Prepares a list of medical supplies needed.
  • Works with the clinical directors to identify clinical quality concerns.
  • Works collaboratively with providers at each site and clinical director to identify critical concerns.
  • Works collaboratively with providers to identify patient education needs and organize patient education materials.
  • Performs audits of medical records and care for clinical quality.
  • Assist in the preparation for reviews by accrediting and funding authorities.
  • Responsible for the clinical supervision of medical assistants as evidenced by compliance with the following standards:
    • Precepts and instructs new medical assistants and on clinical operations.
    • Completes ongoing assessments of staff medical assistants and provides or coordinates monthly training with medical staff at each facility.
    • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information to assess medical assistant documentation compliance.
    • Establish and maintain working relationships with medical staff.
    • Ensures quality measures are met at each site.
  • Ensures that medical record charts reflect that procedures have been completed and information explained to patients once the chat is returned.
  • Able to evaluate the patients response to care through observation.
  • Communicates with the patient to resolve issues of patient flow and at times when waiting room overflow is an issue.
  • Professionally handles patients complaints.
  • Clinical lead for all health initiatives and projects to ensure processes are implemented and adherence is maintained.
    • Responsible for patient education by identifying handouts, one on one discussions, and group activities.
    • Coordinates the diabetes collaborative including developing processes for flow, educational pieces, and general coordination.
    • An active participant in HCHNs Performance Improvement Committee and JCAHO committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing

  • -Current State of Michigan nursing license
  • -CPR certification
  • -Minimum of three (3) years of professional nursing experience in a clinic setting
  • -Minimum of one (1) year management experience

  • General computer proficiency.

Skills Required
