About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and experienced quantitative Staff Researcher to join our team and support Headway's mission to build a new mental healthcare system that everyone can access. In this role, you will be a strategic partner, utilizing a quantitative approach to uncover critical insights about our customers. You will conduct research to inform business and product strategies, helping us identify and unlock significant growth and differentiated product opportunities. You will also be responsible for our Voice of the Customer company-wide program, combining signals across channels to drive actions to improve our products. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end research projects, from identifying key questions and scoping research plans to conducting the work, synthesizing findings, and presenting actionable recommendations to stakeholders across the business.
  • Employ a quantitative research skillset to develop a comprehensive understanding of our users. You will be expected to serve as both a survey and statistical analysis expert for the Research team, employing advanced methods (e.g. DCM) where needed. 
  • Establish and run an impactful Voice of the Customer program, taking in multiple sources of data to synthesize, identify trends, and make recommendations across business organizations. 
  • Act as a strategic thought partner to business leaders, helping them define problem spaces and inform the development of new investments. 
  • Drive a culture of research and user-centricity across the organization by evangelizing research findings and promoting a deep understanding of our customers.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior researchers, helping to build and scale our research practice.

Key Skills and Qualifications 

  • A PhD + 3 years of industry research experience (ideally with experience in a fast-moving tech environment)
    • Or a Masters + 6 years
    • Or a Bachelors + 8 years 
  • Expertise in advanced quantitative research methodologies.
  • A demonstrated ability to identify and frame business problems and opportunities, with a portfolio of work that shows direct impact from quantitative research.
  • Experience in Voice of the Customer / tracking survey research programs. 
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to turn complex data and observations into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse teams.
  • A self-starter who is innately curious about human behavior and passionate about solving complex problems.

The expected base pay range for this position is $$215,900 - $$254,000, based on a variety of factors including qualifications, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for performance-based variable compensation and an equity grant, depending on the position and level.
