The best immersive voice keyboard — 5x faster than typing
The Role
Design, build, and own scalable platform infrastructure for low-latency voice/ML services. Anticipate and eliminate scaling bottlenecks, improve developer experience and deployment speed, integrate product with ML systems (credentials, proxy, routing, experimentation), and set technical direction as the platform team grows.

About Wispr

Wispr is an AI research and product company building the voice interface for computing. AI can now reason, code, and act. Yet, humans still do the work of the interface. We think that’s backwards.
Our first products are Flow, which lets you speak naturally in any application, and Notetaker, which builds context across conversations. We’re building toward an interface that can perceive, understand, and take action with earned trust. That means solving hard problems across models, systems, and product - and caring about the final human experience as deeply as the technology underneath it.

We’re a talent-dense team that holds strong opinions, tests them quickly, and builds technology that sparks joy. Our goal is to build the first voice interface used every day by a billion people.

About the role

You’ll own the backend systems that keep our products fast, available, and safe to change as Wispr scales. You’ll evolve how compute and data scale, establish consistent observability across our services, and rebuild the development workflows engineers use to test critical product experiences.

What you’ll do
  • Decouple compute and data storage so core dictation systems can scale independently

  • Build systematic observability and alerting across our FastAPI services, catching critical failures before users do

  • Create isolated, end-to-end test environments for onboarding, dictation, Notetaker, and other core experiences

  • Improve the redundancy and global availability of critical infrastructure

  • Remove production bottlenecks at their root and give engineers faster, more trustworthy feedback loops

You may be a fit if
  • You’ve designed backend systems whose compute, storage, and services needed to scale independently

  • You’ve built observability and alerting that teams trusted in production

  • You’ve owned infrastructure, deployment, and on-call for services you personally shipped

  • You’ve improved developer workflows while increasing—not trading away—correctness

  • You connect infrastructure decisions to measurable customer outcomes

  • You’ve evolved critical systems through startup or hyperscale growth

Prior voice, ML, model-serving, or SRE-title experience is not required.

Logistics

We sponsor H1B, O1, EB1, L1, STEM OPT, and more. We can't guarantee sponsorship for every role, but if we make you an offer we'll make every reasonable effort, with help from our immigration law firm.
We strongly encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every qualification. The strongest candidates we meet rarely do, so don't exclude yourself prematurely. We're rethinking how humans interact with AI, and doing that well demands diversity of perspective and experience.
We're committed to a fair and accessible interview process. If you need any accommodations or adjustments, please let us know.

Skills Required

  • Experience building and operating production infrastructure for ML-backed services
  • Proven ability to architect and own platform components end-to-end
  • Track record of identifying and fixing scaling and reliability bottlenecks proactively
  • Experience improving developer experience, deployment speed, and platform abstractions
  • Hands-on experience with networking, routing, proxies, and low-latency system design
  • Ability to balance user experience and technical constraints when designing systems
