About the Role
As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and automation frameworks that power Demandbase’s engineering ecosystem. You’ll enable developers to build, deploy, and scale applications with speed, reliability, and security.
In this role, you will lead cloud infrastructure design, deployment automation, and platform optimization across AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes environments. You’ll partner with product and engineering teams to remove operational friction, drive DevOps best practices, and build a culture of “shift left” automation and continuous improvement.
What you’ll be doing
Core Engineering & Infrastructure
- Design, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters for orchestrating and scaling containerized applications.
- Architect and maintain Backstage Scaffolders to streamline developer onboarding, reduce toil, and standardize service creation.
- Develop, optimize, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI/CD) for continuous integration, testing, and delivery.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform to provision, configure, and manage AWS and GCP environments.
- Manage Airflow workflows for reliable orchestration of data pipelines and ETL processes.
- Configure and operate Istio or equivalent service mesh solutions to ensure secure and resilient microservice communication.
- Leverage CNCF tooling (e.g., Flux, Argo Rollouts, External Secrets) to enhance deployment automation and observability.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging with Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog to ensure high availability and system performance.
- Apply security best practices and compliance controls across infrastructure, ensuring resilience and regulatory alignment.
Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Drive platform strategy and continuous improvement of system reliability, scalability, and developer efficiency.
- Establish reusable templates, modules, and documentation to empower self-service development and minimize operational overhead.
- Lead technical design discussions, architectural reviews, and infrastructure standardization initiatives.
- Collaborate with development teams to identify bottlenecks, optimize performance, and streamline delivery pipelines.
- Champion automation, observability, and security-by-design principles throughout the platform ecosystem.
Collaboration & Mentorship
- Partner cross-functionally with software engineering, data, and security teams to deliver unified, scalable infrastructure solutions.
- Mentor peers and contribute to building a culture of continuous learning, quality, and engineering excellence.
- Communicate clearly across technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex infrastructure concepts into actionable insights.
- Contribute to internal documentation, knowledge sharing, and onboarding materials for platform tooling and workflows.
Qualifications:
- 12+ years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps roles with a strong cloud and automation focus.
- Expertise in Kubernetes cluster management, scaling, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Deep understanding of AWS (EKS, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM) and GCP (GKE, BigQuery, IAM, networking) services.
- Experience with CI/CD systems (GitLab CI/CD or similar) for automated software delivery.
- Familiarity with Backstage or similar Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) for templating and scaffolding.
- Proficiency with Airflow for orchestration and Istio or similar service mesh technologies.
- Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar languages.
- Experience with observability stacks like Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog.
- Strong understanding of CNCF ecosystem tools and modern DevOps practices.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a product-driven mindset.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
