The Staff Network Engineer – Stores Network plays a critical role in designing, operating, and evolving the network infrastructure that supports today’s stores while enabling the Store of the Future through innovative and emerging technologies.
This role is ideal for a senior engineer who thrives in large-scale retail environments, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about building reliable, secure, and scalable networks that power in-store digital experiences. What You'll DoKey Outcomes & Responsibilities

1. Raise the Technical and Operational Bar

  • Design and implement next-generation LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, and SD-WAN architectures across all Gap Inc. distribution and campus environments.
  • Lead modernization initiatives to increase network uptime and performance by measurable KPIs (e.g., MTTR reduction, latency improvement).
  • Partner with Cloud and Security teams to integrate hybrid and multi-cloud networking (Azure, OCI).

2. Drive Automation and Efficiency

  • Champion network automation and orchestration using Python, Ansible, or equivalent frameworks to eliminate manual configuration drift.
  • Define and deliver self-service and zero-touch provisioning models across network domains.
  • Establish repeatable processes and monitoring systems that deliver predictable, auditable network operations.

  • Model high-impact behaviors — ownership, curiosity, accountability, and bias for action — in every engagement.

5. Enable Innovation and Continuous Growth

  • Evaluate and integrate emerging network technologies — from AIOps and intent-based networking to cloud-native network services.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, and modernization roadmaps aligned with Infrastructure transformation objectives.
  • Build and maintain detailed network documentation and lifecycle management standards aligned with compliance and change control.
Who You AreRequired Qualifications
  • 5–8 years of progressive experience designing and supporting large-scale enterprise networks.

  • Strong understanding of network security, firewalls, load balancing, and DNS/DHCP/IPAM.
  • Demonstrated success with network automation (Python, Ansible) and observability systems.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across infrastructure, operations, and service delivery teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications: JNCIS, CCNP, or equivalent vendor credentials.
  • Experience with cloud network architecture (Azure, OCI).

What We Do

In 1969, Don and Doris Fisher opened the first Gap store on Ocean Avenue in San Francisco. They wanted to make it easier to find a great pair of jeans, and they did. Their denim and records store was a hit, and it grew to become one of the world’s most iconic brands.

Today we’re represented in more than 1400 stores in over 40 countries, and online. We have headquarters in New York, London, Shanghai, Tokyo, and, of course, San Francisco.

Our unique aesthetic is optimistic cool, elevated American style. Our clothes are crafted with care, with focused attention to thoughtful design. We believe in staying true to our heritage while creating what’s next.

Don and Doris Fisher always wanted to “do more than sell clothes.” They wanted to support the people who ran their company, to be active in their communities, and to have a positive impact on the world. Their vision helped transform retail, and we’re still following their lead.

We stand for freedom and possibility for all; we champion diverse ideas that transcend generations, geographies and genders.
