About the Team

The Global Supply Chain (GSC) organization enables technology solutions that transport and distribute merchandise across the TJX network. The Retail Distribution team supports Distribution Centers responsible processing and shipping merchandise to stores.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Staff Engineer – Java to provide technical leadership and drive the design, development, modernization, and support of critical Distribution Centers applications within the Global Supply Chain ecosystem.

This role will partner closely with Product Management, Solution Architecture, Engineering Leadership, and business stakeholders to build scalable, resilient, and high-performing solutions that enable efficient warehouse and distribution operations.

The ideal candidate combines deep Java engineering expertise with strong architectural thinking, problem-solving skills, mentoring capabilities, and the ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams.

What You'll Do

Technical Leadership

Lead the design and development of enterprise-scale applications supporting Distribution Center operations.

Drive architectural decisions and establish engineering best practices across multiple product teams.

Provide technical leadership for complex modernization and cloud transformation initiatives.

Review solution designs and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards.

Solution Development

Design and develop distributed applications using Java and modern enterprise frameworks.

Build scalable APIs, event-driven services, and integrations with warehouse management and supply chain platforms.

Design solutions that support high transaction volumes and operational resiliency.

Optimize application performance, scalability, and maintainability.

Engineering Excellence

Champion DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and operational excellence.

Improve engineering productivity through reusable frameworks and common services.

Drive code quality through mentoring, reviews, design sessions, and technical governance.

Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex production issues.

Agile Delivery

Collaborate with Product Managers and Product Owners to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.

Participate in PI Planning, architecture discussions, estimation, and backlog refinement.

Support delivery teams in achieving predictable and high-quality outcomes.

Mentorship

Coach and mentor engineers across the organization.

Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.

Help develop future technical leaders within the organization.

Required Qualifications

Experience

10+ years of software engineering experience.

5+ years designing and building enterprise Java applications.

Experience leading large-scale initiatives in a complex enterprise environment.

Proven track record of technical leadership across multiple teams.

Technical Skills

Strong Java expertise, with Java 17+ preferred.

Deep knowledge of Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and modern microservices architecture.

Extensive experience designing REST APIs and event-driven solutions.

Hands-on experience with messaging platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Pub/Sub.

Strong SQL and database design skills using Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar platforms.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Jenkins, and automated deployment practices.

Understanding of cloud-native engineering practices, preferably on Azure.

Practical experience applying GenAI and LLM-based tools to improve engineering productivity and solution delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Supply Chain, domains.

Experience integrating with Manhattan WMS or similar supply chain platforms.

Experience working within SAFe Agile environments.
