Job Description:

Process and Mechanical Basic Engineering:

  • Develop concept- and basic-engineering deliverables for hydrogen production facilities, including design basis documents, operating cases, process descriptions, process flow diagrams, preliminary heat and material balances, utility summaries, equipment lists, line lists, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and process/mechanical scope documents.
  • Develop, maintain, and independently use auditable Excel-based engineering models for preliminary calculations, with clear assumptions, units, input/output separation, error checks, sensitivity cases, revision control, and calculation notes.
  • Perform first-principles and spreadsheet-based calculations for gas-flow conversion, mass balance, preliminary compressor duty and power, buffer and storage capacity, filling cycles, pressure drop, cooling duty, utility consumption, vent/drain loads, and other concept- and basic-engineering requirements.
  • Define process conditions, design pressures and temperatures, turndown and operating scenarios, utilities, control interfaces, tie-ins, battery limits, and project-specific design assumptions.
  • Prepare preliminary equipment sizing and selection inputs and establish the technical basis required for supplier quotations and EPC pricing.
  • Review and challenge calculations, simulations, datasheets, and design inputs received from Applications Engineering, EPC contractors, consultants, and vendors.
  • Recognize the limits of preliminary calculations and identify when specialist simulation, dynamic analysis, detailed stress analysis, safety studies, or third-party validation is required.
  • Identify process and mechanical integration risks related to pressure, temperature, flow, materials compatibility, water quality, drainage, venting, relief, control philosophy, start-up, shutdown, and abnormal operating scenarios.

Hydrogen Downstream Systems and Mechanical Packages:

  • Define technical and interface requirements for hydrogen compression packages, including inlet/outlet conditions, flow, pressure ratio, compression stages, cooling, utilities, controls, footprint, access, maintainability, noise, vibration, installation, and performance guarantees.
  • Develop sizing and specification inputs for buffer vessels, pressure vessels, high-pressure storage systems, gas coolers, dryers, purifiers, separators, filters, condensate handling, and associated piping, valves, instruments, and utility systems.
  • Support the technical definition and integration of hydrogen delivery and downstream applications, including tube-trailer loading bays, cylinder or cascade filling, hydrogen dispensers and refueling stations, storage and export systems, and project-specific pipeline or off-taker interfaces.
  • Define mechanical package battery limits and interfaces with the electrolyzer, water systems, electrical supply, controls, safety systems, civil works, buildings, drainage, vents, and EPC plant design.
  • Review package layouts, utility loads, nozzle and connection requirements, vendor drawings, foundation loads, access and maintenance clearances, lifting requirements, and installation constraints.
  • Evaluate material selection and compatibility for hydrogen and utility services, considering pressure, temperature, purity, corrosion, embrittlement risk, cleanliness, and applicable project requirements.
  • Support technical optimization and value engineering.

Supplier RFQ, Technical Evaluation and Cost Estimation:

  • Identify and prequalify suitable suppliers and package vendors
  • Prepare complete technical RFQ packages, including datasheets.
  • Manage supplier technical clarifications and quotation timelines
  • Prepare technical quotation evaluations, deviation lists, clarification logs, and recommendation summaries; and identify scope or pricing gaps.
  • Develop budgetary and basic-engineering CAPEX estimates and detailed cost breakdowns for process and mechanical BOP.
  • Develop and maintain Excel-based cost models and a structured cost database.
  • Prepare preliminary BOMs, BOQs, and MTOs
  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities, alternative technical solutions, and supplier strategies.

EPC Partner and Project Execution Support:

  • Support EPC partner engagement during project development phase
  • Review relevant EPC and vendor deliverables for alignment with the agreed design basis, scope, performance requirements, and equipment interfaces.
  • Support technical query resolution, design reviews, interface coordination, change-impact assessment, and closure of preliminary engineering assumptions during project execution.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, design reviews, constructability reviews.
  • Provide occasional site and construction support for technical clarification, installation readiness, package interfaces, testing, and commissioning preparation;

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Post graduation in any engineering discipline is a plus.
  • 8-12+ years of relevant experience in process engineering, mechanical package engineering, applications engineering, within hydrogen, industrial gas, oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, gas compression, CNG/LNG, or related industries is desired.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in process or mechanical basic engineering, equipment sizing, cost estimation, supplier RFQs, or techno-commercial package evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience with several of the following: compressors, buffer or storage vessels, pressure vessels, gas dryers/purifiers, cooling systems, high-pressure gas piping, loading systems, dispensers/refueling systems, or industrial gas utilities.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing engineering calculations, datasheets, RFQs, technical quotation evaluations, budgetary estimates, BOMs/BOQs/MTOs, and scope or battery-limit documents.
  • Experience working for an EPC contractor, engineering consultant, or hydrogen technology provider is strongly preferred.
