Job Description

The Staff Development Nurse (SDN) is responsible for promoting excellence in clinical practice through the coordination, delivery and evaluation of education, training and competency assessment within the Angiography Suite.

The SDN supports the professional development of nursing staff by facilitating orientation, ongoing education, mandatory training, clinical competency assessments and evidence-based practice. Working collaboratively with the Nurse Unit Manager and a multidisciplinary team, the SDN contributes to maintaining a highly skilled workforce capable of delivering safe, high-quality patient care.

  • Coordinate and deliver orientation programs for new nursing staff.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate education programs that meet the learning needs of the department.
  • Facilitate clinical teaching in the workplace using adult learning principles.
  • Ensure staff maintain clinical competencies relevant to angiography and interventional procedures.
  • Coordinate annual competency assessments and maintain accurate education records.
  • Identify education requirements through clinical audits, incident reviews and changes in clinical practice.
  • Support graduate nurses, transition nurses and staff undertaking specialty training.
  • Promote evidence-based nursing practice throughout the department.
