Block builds technology for economic empowerment.
The Role
The Staff Developer Relations Engineer will teach and engage developers with AI tools through demos, workshops, content creation, and community programs, while collaborating across teams to enhance projects and programs.
Summary Generated by Built In
Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams - People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more - provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The Role
As a Staff Developer Relations Engineer at Block, you'll help developers level up with AI. Within our team, some of us work in open source, and some work inside Block teaching engineering teams how to use AI tools in real projects. You'll be comfortable with either.
You would join a group that loves to experiment, build quick examples, and show others how AI can make software development faster and more creative. Your work will help thousands of engineers get comfortable with AI coding assistants, agents, and new ways of building.
You'll report to Angie Jones, Head of Developer Relations, and be part of an organization that supports both internal and external developer programs.
You Will
  • Teach developers how to build with AI through demos, workshops, and real hands on activities
  • Speak at meetups and conferences and represent the team in developer spaces
  • Record videos and livestreams that show how to build with AI and why it matters
  • Write clear blog posts and tutorials that help developers try things on their own
  • Build small apps, scripts, and agent flows for demos and experiments
  • Create fun community programs like hackathons and contests that spark engagement
  • Hang out with the community on Discord and social platforms and be a friendly guide
  • Bring community feedback to our internal teams so we build with real developer needs in mind
  • Partner with Engineering, Comms, Design, and other teams to ship great work
  • Stay curious and try new AI features so you can show others what works and what does not

You Have
  • Strong software engineering experience and real comfort using AI coding assistants and AI agents in your own workflow
  • A natural instinct for teaching and helping developers level up
  • A talent for explaining complex ideas in a simple and engaging way
  • Excitement for making creative content across video, writing, audio, or whatever medium tells the story best
  • Strong understanding of CI, pull requests, and code reviews and how AI can speed up that whole flow
  • Comfort working independently and moving forward even when things feel a little unclear
  • Ability to shift focus quickly based on what the team needs, whether that is open source work or internal AI enablement
  • 5+ years of experience in Developer Relations or a similar role where you were teaching developers through code and content

Technologies We Use and Teach
  • AI agents and assistants (e.g. goose, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, etc)
  • MCP (servers and clients)
  • Local, open source, and frontier LLMs
  • GitHub
  • Whatever new tools we decide to explore next
