The Staff Attorney provides legal and regulatory guidance to various CME Group business units, and works with other attorneys in the department on analysis of new business initiatives and new regulatory requirements. The attorney plays a role in managing the regulatory aspects of new product listings, market-maker programs and other initiatives supporting growth in liquidity in key product areas. The attorney will also work on multiple other areas within the Legal Department, gaining broad exposure to the legal and regulatory aspects of the business.
Principal Accountabilities:
• Facilitate New Product and Rule Filing Processes: Maintaining and facilitating Weekly CFTC Legal Agenda ▪ Drafting weekly notifications ▪ Filing submissions and updating the CME Group website ▪ Maintaining internal trackers • Drafting and/or reviewing rule filings related to new products or other product-related initiatives.
• Rulebook Updates: Making rulebook updates for CME Group DCMs/DCO and CME Securities Clearing.
• Market Maker/Incentive Programs: Drafting program filings ▪ Filing submissions and updating the CME Group website ▪ Drafting program applications
• Assist with Ad Hoc Legal Analyses: Conducting legal research and drafting internal memoranda regarding the legal classification and other regulatory implications of proposed derivatives products and related initiatives.
• Summarize regulatory developments: Review recent proposed rulemakings, no-action relief, interpretative notices, and enforcements actions and prepare summaries.
