POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. The staff accountant's responsibilities include maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with budget and close processes, conducting internal audits, and maintaining accounts payable documentation.
This individual should be able to accurately maintain a general ledger and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). An outstanding staff accountant should also have excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
- Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Maintains the general ledger.
- Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
- Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
- Prepare and review financial documents, reports, and statements.
- Maintain financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts.
- Prepare journal entries, analyses, and accounting reconciliations and assist with monthly close processes.
- Contribute to the development and review of annual operating budgets and performance projections.
- Maintain documentation for accounts payable, purchasing, and treasury and conduct internal audits.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Respond to information requests, review financial statements, and assist with audits.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Preferred Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
- Certificate(s) or License(s): CPA, preferred
- Years of experience: 2+, preferably with a retail company
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
- Strong working knowledge of Excel
- Ability to analyze financial statements
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
- Good problem-solving skills and time management skills
- Ability to juggle multiple projects or tasks at once
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Working knowledge of GAAP
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented

Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
