The Hilb Group is currently seeking a motivated and ambitious Staff Accountant to join our team. This position will report to our agency located in Richmond, VA. The ideal candidate will be motivated to succeed, is well organized, able to prioritize, and able to work well with a team. This is a virtual position.
Responsibilities:
Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including general ledger reconciliations and financial reporting
Assist team as needed with revenue recognition activities in compliance with ASC 606
Oversee lease accounting and ensure proper classification and compliance
Prepare and manage property tax documentation and 1099 submissions
Assist with audit preparation and documentation of financial controls
Ensure compliance with accounting principles and internal standards
Maintain and document accounting processes for control and efficiency improvements
Collaborate cross-functionally to drive finance-related projects and enhancements
Qualifications:
Highschool or GED required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or subsequent Accounting coursework. CPA certification a plus, but not required
Proven accounting experience at a public accounting firm strongly valued as well as subsequent insurance industry experience
3+ years of work experience in accounting roles demonstrating a solid understanding of basic accounting principles, including audit preparation and financial controls
Working knowledge of Workday Financials or similar ERP systems
Preferred experience working with large insurance brokers or financial services organizations
Preferred familiarity with process documentation and optimization
Preferred advanced proficiency in GAAP, financial reconciliations, and report generation
High attention to detail, strong analytical mindset, and excellent communication skills
