As we continue to scale, we’re looking for a highly detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team and work closely with our Controller to support Daybreak’s accounting operations and financial reporting.

The Role

As a Staff Accountant, you’ll work closely with the Controller across the day-to-day accounting function, bi-weekly payroll processing, and monthly close process. You’ll be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reconciliations and journal entries, supporting accounts payable and receivable, and helping ensure our accounting processes remain organized and scalable as the company grows.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is detail-oriented, analytical, proactive, and eager to take ownership. You’ll have visibility across the business and the opportunity to help improve processes and systems as Daybreak continues to scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Own bi-weekly payroll processing and end-to-end payroll administration and multi-state compliance, leveraging strong time management and cross-departmental collaboration to execute seamless offboarding and timely final paycheck processing in accordance with state labor laws.

  • Own the daily revenue and refund postings, and research discrepancies as needed.

  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules

  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure transactions are accurately recorded

  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes

  • Assist with accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts

  • Assist with financial reporting and preparation of internal management reports

  • Maintain organized and accurate accounting documentation

  • Support annual audits, tax filings, and other external reporting requirements

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting questions and ensure accurate financial data

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting

  • Assist the Controller with ad hoc financial analysis and accounting projects

  • Help build scalable accounting processes and infrastructure as Daybreak grows

What We’re Looking For

  • 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles

  • Experience with payroll, month end close, and balance sheet reconciliations

  • Experience with revenue recognition, billing, or payment-related accounting

  • Experience with payroll and/or expense management platforms such as Justworks, Ramp, or similar systems is a plus

  • Experience working with an ERP or accounting system

  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset and willingness to roll up your sleeves

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a high-growth startup environment

  • Experience in healthcare, healthcare technology, SaaS, or payments

  • Experience supporting audits and tax filings

  • Experience helping build or improve accounting processes and internal controls

Why Daybreak

At Daybreak, you’ll have the opportunity to join a growing company at an important stage of its evolution. Working closely with the Controller, you’ll have meaningful ownership across the accounting function while helping build the processes and infrastructure that will support Daybreak’s continued growth.

We’re looking for someone who wants more than a checklist of accounting responsibilities; someone who is excited to build, improve, and grow with the company.

Daybreak is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
