Description

UpSwell is a fast-growing marketing agency helping businesses across the country grow through powerful direct mail and digital marketing solutions. We are proud to be recognized as a five-time Best and Brightest Company to Work For. Our culture is collaborative, energetic, and built around people who like to move fast, solve problems, and have fun while doing great work.
As we continue to grow, we are building a team of smart, curious people who want to make an impact, take ownership, and grow along with us.

We are looking for an accountant with strong fundamentals who can think beyond the task in front of them. Someone who picks things up quickly, understands how transactions flow through the financials, spots inconsistencies, and knows when to dig deeper.

You should be comfortable working independently, figuring things out, asking the right questions, and taking ownership from start to finish. We want someone who doesn't just know how to do the accounting, but understands why they're doing it.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries in Sage and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts monthly, investigate discrepancies, and resolve issues.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close, including accruals and account analysis.
  • Record incoming manual payments accurately and timely.
  • Process and pay an assigned portion of company accounts payable.
  • Maintain purchase-order-related expense files and reconcile assigned vendors.
  • Assist with audit requests and provide supporting documentation.
  • Apply established accounting procedures and GAAP principles to day-to-day work.
  • Identify errors, unusual transactions, or inconsistencies and research issues as needed.
  • Support the Controller and Accounting team with special projects, ad hoc reporting, and process improvements.
  • Perform additional accounting duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

We want someone who is curious, dependable, and willing to dig into the numbers. You should be comfortable identifying when something doesn't look right, researching the issue, asking questions, and following through until it's resolved.

Work Arrangement

This is a full-time, hybrid position with employees expected to work in the office two days per week. Additional hours may occasionally be required during month-end or year-end close.

Equal Opportunity Employer

UpSwell is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to any legally protected status.

Requirements

 * Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

* At least 3–5 years of general accounting experience.

* Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles.

* Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close.

* Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

* Experience with an accounting or ERP system; Sage experience preferred.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

* Excellent attention to detail and organization.

* Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and take ownership of responsibilities.
